Built in 1892 this former Methodist Chapel has been converted into a luxurious self-catering 'spa' retreat. It opened for our first guests in January 2008. Kaber sits beneath the Stainmore fells and is mid-way between Kirkby Stephen and Brough in the unspoilt Eden Valley. There are many things to see and do in the area and the Lakes and Dales are but a short drive away. Kaber is a pretty and traditional hamlet and has consistently won the Cumbria in Bloom best kept hamlet award. As a Norwegian and British couple we are bringing together the best of two worlds in its stunning design and decoration. Every luxury and modern convenience has been considered whilst still retaining many features of the chapel including the antique organ! You will not be disappointed.

Easter 2011 was a scorcher, we arrived bang on 4pm, met Lizzie and Tony who showed the most responsible two adults around the Chapel. It was only fair to draw lots for the rooms as some were twins and some were doubles. I was delighted that I got 'The Witches'. As the days were so fine, we ended up out of the Chapel during the day, but when we got back there in the evening, it was like a royal feast in the Great Hall.

Had a fantastic hen weekend at Kaber Chapel. It is without a doubt, the nicest accommodation I've stayed in in this country and absolutely perfect for a hen weekend.

I recently stayed with a group of friends to celebrate my 30th birthday. The photos on the website don't do it justice and it far exceeded my expectations. The attention to detail with the themed rooms, indoor BBQ, sauna & hot tub is astounding. We were greeted with a lovely 'welcome' hamper. Bathrobes and slippers were provided.

Owner profile
About the owner
We are a mixed cultural couple - British and Norwegian -living in Singapore but with family living in a neighbouring village to Kaber.
Year purchased: 2007
Why the owner chose a home in this location
Having first viewed the chapel for sale in May 2006 we eventually completed the purchase in January 2007 having achieved full planning permission for a luxury holiday home. The conversion took eight months. We have spent many hours, with the help of an architect, to create a stunning and contemporary design that we think captures the best from two different cultural styles whilst still retaining many of the chapel features.
Unique benefits of the property
This is our dream place. It's designed to help us and others escape their stressful lives, to be active by walking or cycling in the area or just relaxing with the chapel facilities. The spa area with sauna, wooden barreled hot tub and indoor BBQ area certainly make this property unique. It's also a great house for celebrations, reunions and family parties.
