At Pounds Farm, on the borders of Devon and Somerset, we offer top quality bed and breakfast. Whether you are planning just a night, or a short break, you can enjoy a taste of luxury in an idyllic rural setting. Set amid green meadows and surrounded by mature gardens, Pounds farm offers you a warm welcome. It is peaceful and cosy, with plenty of character, old beams and log fires. From your window you can enjoy extensive views to distant hills and watch the geese and Molly the horse as they graze. During the summer, cows with their new calves also enjoy the grass in the fields surrounding the house. We have a friendly Springer Spaniel, Georgia, who is well trained and tends to stay out of the way of visitors, unless they tell us they like dogs. We also have a farm cat called Poppy, who lives in the barns and six hens and five geese who provide us with fresh eggs. I bake fresh bread daily, make all my own jam and marmalade's and the breakfast sausages and bacon are from a nearby farm.

What a wonderful place! Beautiful views, so peaceful too. Your house is quintessentially English, just what I had hoped for. Lovely room, cosy bed and a friendly welcome. Thank you for such a nice stay. Jane B, Wilts.

Thanks a lot guys. You were simply the most beautiful people and dog we met in England and the competition has been harsh. Christos and Kyriakos, Greece.

Geese on the pond, white horses in the field, I felt as if I were in an English romantic novel. Thank you so much for your kindness and warmth. Lynne B, California.

Owner profile

About the owner
For the last 30 years, my husband Jim and I have lived in the beautiful Blackdown Hills in Devon. It is where our three children grew up and enjoyed family life in a very peaceful place. They have now all left home to live and work in various cities. We still lead the good life, and work hard to tend a large vegetable garden, grow flowers for the house, and to enjoy the fruits of a productive orchard. We keep laying hens and a flock of geese. I have a grey mare called Molly, a springer spaniel called Georgia and for exercise, Jim and I enjoy walking over the fields and cycling around the pretty lanes. We offer bed and breakfast accommodation in the farm house and we also have a tiny cottage. We also have a villa in Turkey which we let and which we ourselves escape to when we can.

Why the owner chose a guest house in this location
We bought in this location because we liked the village of Hemyock and we both had the feeling that Pounds Farm would make a wonderful family home. The Blackdown Hills are an area of outstanding natural beauty and we are set amid an ancient landscape of small fields and hedges with lovely views. We have slowly updated and improved the farm house over the years, but have carefully retained its key features and charm. When the children left home to live and work in various cities we decided to start to offer B and B. Since then we have discovered that we thoroughly enjoy meeting and looking after our visitors, who find the tranquility here is something they miss in their everyday lives.

Unique benefits of the property
The aim that my husband Jim and I share is to offer a very warm welcome and a comfortable stay in our family home. The standards we set ourselves are high and the rooms are comfortable and all have stunning views. We are always on hand to offer advice about where to visit, where to eat and things to do in the area. Pounds Farm is only half a mile from the friendly village of Hemyock with its Post Office, shop and traditional pub selling good food and local beers. There are tennis courts and back at the farm we offer guests the use of the heated swimming pool and a couple of sturdy mountain bikes. For breakfast, I only serve locally sourced bacon and sausages and free range eggs. I make my own apple juice, preserves and marmalade.
