Notes on accommodation
This was once a grand London house for a professional gentleman's family. You can stay in the top part of the house, sleeping where the servants would have slept, with a view of Telecom Tower and London's West End from your window. What would have been the gentleman's master bedroom is now your living room. At night you can close the old wooden shutters on London and curl up on the sofas either with one of our many books on London or with a film from our collection of DVDs.
Accessibility
This property is not suitable for wheelchair users or anyone who has problems with stairs. It is on the second and third floors and there is no lift/elevator.
Outside
There is no outside space with this property, but for children, the excellent Coram's Fields is moments away. This park only admits adults if they are accompanied by a child. It has swings, slides and climbing frames for all ages, a sand-pit, farm animals and astro-turf football pitches, all free for kids. For adults, London is full of parks and gardens, but Russell Square with its fountain, newly restored gardens and cafe is a good place for a rest from London's fast-paced lifestyle.
Travel
The nearest airport is London Heathrow and it is a single tube train journey to Russell Square, which is a 7 minute walk to the apartment. Other airports, London Gatwick, London City, London Stansted and Luton are about an hour away by train. We will give you full directions when you book. The mainline train stations of Kings Cross, St Pancras and Euston are walking distance. Waterloo, Paddington and Victoria are a tube or bus ride away. A car is not necessary or advisable.
Distances
John St is in the historic area of Bloomsbury in Central London. The British Museum is a 10 min walk and the Charles Dickens Museum housed in the building where he wrote Oliver Twist, is 1 minute away. London's West End with its fabulous shopping (Oxford St, Regent St), theatres, art galleries and landmarks (Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Big Ben) is close by. Covent Garden with its street theatre, opera house and shopping Piazza is an easy walk. The financial district is also close by.
Further details
It is a short bus ride to the River Thames for boat trips to Greenwich. Perhaps a walk across the Millennium Bridge to the Tate Modern art gallery or just a stroll along the South Bank to the London Eye or to see the rebuilt Elizabethan theatre, Shakespeare's Globe. But make sure you spend some time wandering around the garden squares of Georgian Bloomsbury, looking at the houses where Virginia Woolf's Bloomsbury set used to hang out, browsing in the small shops in the charming Lambs Conduit Street and getting a feel for old London, London as it was 200 years ago.
If you are coming to London on business, the apartment is a short distance from the City of London and the West End. For academics it is close to University College London, London School of Economics and the British Library.
The apartment is also a short walk from Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery and the Eastman Dental Hospital.

We stayed at 22 John Street in for a week in late November while on a business/holiday trip to London. We could not have asked for a better place to stay. The apartment itself is tastefully decorated and has all modern amenities. It is situated in a relatively quiet portion of Bloomsbury, near numerous restaurants, cafes, shops, pubs and parks. Public transportation is very convenient, with three tube stops within an easy walk. The British Museum, Covent Garden, and the theatres and restaurants of the West End are all just short walks from the apartment. We spent most of our time exploring the nearby neighborhoods and occasionally venturing further afield on the bus or the tube to see the sights of the wonderful city.
We highly recommend 22 John Street as a wonderful place to stay in central London and would visit again (and hope to!).
