The Gig House is a flint and brick studio apartment in a Grade II listed building dated from around 1859. It was originally the stables and hayloft for the adjacent Hollydene. In more recent years it was used for drying flowers. The Gig House is bijou and cosy. It has a sheltered courtyard garden for alfresco meals. It is well appointed and surrounded by beautiful countryside and it is just a few minutes drive from the coast. This is an ideal country retreat for a couple looking for a relaxing place to unwind.

Owner profile

About the owner
Our family live in the main house at Hollydene. It has been our home for 12 years and we enjoy being part of this strong community. This is a beautiful area and we regularly take walks into the surrounding countryside and also cycle to the nearby seaside. It is a great place to live. Our home is a Grade II listed building and the Gig House is within the grounds of Hollydene.

Year purchased: 1998

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We fell in love with the house, garden and outbuildings when we first saw it for sale. It had been empty for some time and needed some tender loving care. The village is very popular and there is a strong emphasis on community. The surrounding countryside is beautiful with heathlands, woodland, marshes, open fields and meadows. The coast is nearby with superb beaches and also coastal resorts. It is a perfect location for getting away from it all and, at the same time, it is also near enough to local shops etc not to feel to isolated.

Unique benefits of the property
The Gig House at Hollydene is in the centre of the village, convenient for access to the nearby coast (Southwold and Dunwich are just up the road), market towns and also the countryside which is right on the doorstep. Nature lovers will really appreciate the location, there are five heath commons which are home to some rare species of flora and fauna, (the RSPB centre at Minsmere is also nearby), the area is also rich in history and culture (for example the Concert Hall at Snape Maltings is a short drive away). There are pretty two public houses, both within short walking distance away and a reliable bus service into the local market towns. It is a lovely place to stay in order to relax and recharge.
