Accessibility
Fowey as a village was built on the side of cliffs so is naturally very hilly. Roads are narrow with little or no pavements and there are a lot of steps around. It is however possible to get in and out of town and to Harbour View avoiding steps. Push chairs are fine but wheel chairs would be challenging. The house is not ideal for those who have problems with mobility as the house is Victorian and cannot cater in anyway for those who may experience difficulty with stairs.
Outside
Outside to the rear is a private balcony and large decking/entertainment area. This can also be accessed from the side of the house where there are steps leading up to the decking. There is a large teak table with 8 matching chairs and 2 sun loungers. The BBQ is a very large stainless steel gas fired BBQ. The decking has lighting and power and captures the sun most of the day in to the late evening (consideration should be given to neighbours particularly in the evening). The house is situated in a private no through road and it is possible to sit out at the front as there is virtually no traffic. Harbour View as the name suggests sits over looking the harbour with totally uninterupted views, there are 14 houses in the road. Cars can access Harbour View for loading/unloading but should be left at the car park which is about 2 minutes walk away.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beach Ready Money is a 10 minute walk which sits in the harbour mouth, it has a sandy beach and there is no access to boats. Other beaches include Lantic Bay and Coombe which can be accessed via the coastal path or by boat.
Golf
There are over 30 golf courses within an hours drive with Carlyon Bay, Porthpean, Lostwithiel and St.Austell golf courses being virtually on the door step.
Special interest holidays
Fowey hosts the Daphne du Maurier week in May
Regatta Week is held in August attracting the Red Arrows, Gig racing and one of the largest sailing fleets outside Cowes Week
Fowey Classics held in July.
Travel
The closest airport is Newquay which is approximately 30 minutes away by car. Par station is 3 miles away and sits on the mainline to Bristol, Birmingham and London.
The journey from Bristol is 160 miles and takes about 2.5hrs most of which is motorway or dual carriage.
Distances
The capital of Cornwall is Truro which lies about 20 miles to the West with Plymouth about 30 miles to the East and St.Austell 7 miles to the North.
The North cost is about 30-40 minutes drive with places such as Padstow, Rock and Newquay being easily accessible.

Owner profile
About the owner
Julian & Lindsay Telling have been visiting Fowey since they were teenagers. The family have had a property in Fowey since the earl 70's and have owned No.4 Harbour View since 1987. In 2008 an opportunity arose to purchase No.1 Harbour View which had been empty and in a poor state of repair for a few years.
After 12 months of refurbishment No.1 has emerged a contemporary conversion of a Victorian villa benefiting from all the mod cons.
Why Fowey: Fowey is a very special place which has something to offer for both the young and old. Our house is definitely a home and available for a limited number of weeks every year. After almost 40 years of visiting Fowey with 3 generations it is our adopted home
Year purchased: 2008
Why the owner chose a home in this location
Fowey is one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the UK. Set on the south coast, within St.Austell bay it has its own estuary.
Whilst one of the busiest sailing centres in the UK Fowey has changed little over the centuries. It has narrow streets, old properties and a magical history. It has been home to authors such as Daphne du Maurier and Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch and is steeped in naval history not to mention piracy!
The unspoilt coast line is virtually all owned by the National Trust. In the summer the town is bustling with holiday makers and sailors and in the winter it enjoys a quieter pace of life. Fowey, however is still very much a working port with china clay docks supporting many large vessels together with a fishing fleet.
Unique benefits of the property
Harbour View is probably the best location in town. It has the benefit of being a small private road so enjoys privacy and is away from the daily hustle and bustle of Fowey life. Yet within 2 minutes walk you can be in the high street with all its shops, restaurants and pubs.
The house has everything required for the perfect stay and Fowey has something to suit everyone.
