The cottage faces south and looks out onto lush Dorset farmland and splendid rolling hills. Within a few minutes drive are an excellent country pub, a heated indoor swimming pool, tennis, golf and the Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury with its famous Gold Hill, abbey ruins, shopping and cafes. Nearby too are Longleat House and Safari Park, Stonehenge, Salisbury Cathedral, fine country pubs and restaurants, numerous other places of interest and good walks.

Changeover day
Saturday, but there may be flexibility at certain times of year.

Notes on accommodation
There is heating in every room. The house is well furnished with a combination of period and more recent furniture.
Outside
The cottage has a large, fenced garden and is ideal for children and dogs. It looks out onto fields (covered with wild flowers in early summer) with peacefully grazing horses and cows and then onto the rolling hills of Dorset. A south and west-facing terrace with table, chairs and barbecue looks out towards the views and towards the evening sun in the west.
Coast/Beach
The Dorset coast with its beaches and the 'Jurassic coast' around Lyme Regis are 40-50 miles away.

Port Regis Golf Club, Motcombe Park simple 9-hole golf course: 10 min drive. Dorset Heights Golf Club, Okeford Fitzpaine 30 min drive. Rushmore Park Golf Club 15 min drive. Ashley Wood Golf Club near Blandford 35 min drive. Crane Valley Golf Club, Verwood 30 min drive.
Special interest holidays
The cottage borders onto a working farm with horses and ponies, and riding can be arranged with the farm owner.

A car is almost essential. Nearest railway stations are Gillingham, Dorset and Tisbury, Wiltshire, both about 15 mins drive away and about 2 hours from London Waterloo. Poole Docks approx 30 miles. Southampton Docks approx 40 miles. Bournemouth airport approx 30 miles. Southampton airport approx 40 miles.

Further details
There is good food shopping nearby with a Somerfelds and a Tesco in Shaftesbury (4 mins drive) and a Waitrose in Gillingham (15 mins drive). Shaftesbury has branches of Barclays and NatWest and the High Street has a private off-licence with a good selection of wines. There are a variety of good pubs and restaurants in the surrounding area ranging from good pub food to quality gourmet eating.
Booking notes
Telephone bookings are accepted for 48 hours while a cheque is posted or bank telegraphic transfer made. Deposit of 25% on booking and balance 8 weeks before arrival date, unless of course the booking is shorter notice, in which case suitable arrangements can be made with the owners. Bookings are for Saturday arrival from 3pm to Saturday departure by 10am. Other days by arrangement and of course by availability.
