Guest comments
"Lots more facilities than expected. Chris gave very good local tips and ideas."
"Quite the best cottage accommodation we have ever stayed in - thank you Chris for making us so welcome."
"One week we had here was nowhere near enough to take it all in. We especially loved walking along the coast path."
"This was our honeymoon - Chris and John made us feel very welcome; the card, bottle of wine and chocs were a lovely gesture. The cottage provided us with exactly what we were looking for: somewhere quiet, cosy and warm with good access to footpaths without having to use the car. The accomodation is excellent and the locality worth returning to for further exploration."

Owner profile

About the owner
Chris and John bought the farmhouse from the Ilchester Estates over 25years ago. We are only the second owners of the farmhouse - the Earls of Strangways (now Ilchester Estates) having owned Elworth since Henry V111's dissolution of the monasteries! The Strangways family still own much of Abbotsbury to this day. Chris is very keen on local history and has been secretary for the Abbotsbury Heritage Research Project, a tour guide at Abbotsbury swannery and has taught drama to young children. She is currently secretary for Abbotsbury Tourism and Traders Association and delights at being a Story Teller for children at various village events.

Year purchased: 1980's

Why the owner chose a home in this location
The perfect location - away from traffic, surrounded by farmland but close to all amenities. Near by Abbotsbury village is vibrant and full of interest with lots to do and get involved in if one wishes.

Unique benefits of the property
Just a step outside of the door and the open countryside beckons - I won't say it is 'peaceful' as there may tractors about during the day, the cows might moo and the owls and foxes can make a noise at night during the late autumn/early Spring and when the weather is blustery, you might even hear the waves crashing against the Chesil beach! For those that like being by a farm near to the seaside however, the location is idyllic. A short walk up the hillside and you can look down over a patchwork of field systems (that have scarcely changed in centuries) across the seascape that stretches from Lulworth Bay, Portland, the Chesil Beach and across Lyme Bay.
