Merrivale is situated in the south west corner of the South Hams on the Devon/Cornwall border and enjoys uninterrupted panoramic sea views from its superb cliff top position in the coastal village of Heybrook Bay within the parish of Wembury, an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). The location is perfect for couples or family holidays, walking the coastal paths, exploring the nearby beaches or simply relaxing in the garden or on the decking soaking up the sun and watching the many boats and species of birds. Merrivale is spacious and modern with most rooms having superb sea views including the 3 good sized bedrooms downstairs and master bedroom upstairs with balcony and stunning sea views, each of the bedrooms has a bath/shower room either en-suite or adjacent. There is a large living room with log fire, kitchen and utility, conservatory/dining room, study area and large decking overlooking the sea as well as various seating areas on the terrace or in the garden. Ample parking.

Prices for the property per week in UK Pounds. Short breaks are available out of high season at 80% of weekly tariff for 4 nights or less. Please contact for availability. A heating supplement of £40pw is charged from 1st October until 31st March.
Changeover day
Saturday changeover day with 10.00 departure and arrival from 16.00. Changeover day can be flexible for short breaks and Christmas/ New Year weeks.

Notes on accommodation
Gas central heating; log fire; suitable for children (cot and high chair available by request), the elderly and the disabled with assistance. For the comfort of all guests we have a non smoking policy in the house. Sorry no pets. Ofsted registered child minder available for babysitting by prior arrangement and payable locally. There is a garage at the property but this is not available for use. There is however a lockable shed with sink in the rear garden for use to store bikes, wet suits (on hanging rail) and boards etc while on holiday. Basic cleaning materials such as washing up liquid and some dish washer/washing machine tablets. Welcome pack includes Devon cream tea, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk and sugar/sweeteners, as well as a bottle of wine, lemonade, coke and sparkling mineral water in the drinks cooler.
There is a games room with 6' pool table, mini table football and mini air hockey, as well as a bistro table and chairs. Sky TV in the upstairs master bedroom.

Outside
New for 2011 is the refitted Games/Playroom underneath the decking with 3/4 size pool table and ensuite cloakroom with toilet and wash basin. The room also has an external decking area (with sea view), a bistro table and two chairs, as well as a small fridge for drinks.
A great feature of Merrivale is the attractive garden laid mainly to lawn with various seating areas, which provide a super opportunity to enjoy uninterrupted panoramic sea views spanning the Mewstone to the south east, the Eddystone Lighthouse straight ahead and across Plymouth Sound to Rame Head, Cornwall to the south west. The garden encompasses many different seating areas and is secure for young children to explore. The decking area outside the conservatory has a large table, parasol and chairs for dining. There is ample car parking.
Coast/Beach
Merrivale is only 5 minutes walk from the coast via a footpath at the end of the drive and within a mile along the coastal path to the east is the National Trust beach at Wembury and to the west the beach at Bovisand, both with toilets and cafe/shop. Within easy reach by car you are many of the Devon and Cornish beaches such as Whitsands, Bigbury, Thurlestone and Bantham, as well as the north coast beaches such as Bude, Polzeath and Newquay.
Golf
3 miles to Staddon Heights golf club with a commanding view across Plymouth Sound to the historic Hoe and the city beyond, so you can enjoy spectacular views as you play the fantastic cliff-top golf course. St. Mellion Hotel Golf and Country Club is 19 miles (about 40 minutes drive). Whitsand Bay Hotel Golf Club is 26 miles (about 50 minutes drive).
Thurlestone golf course is 21 miles (about 40 minutes drive).
Bigbury golf course is 16 miles (about 35 minutes drive).
Skiing
Plymouth dry ski slope and toboggan run is 10 miles away.

Heybrook Bay has a pub, The Eddystone, and a mile away in the village of Down Thomas is The Mussel Inn, parts of which may date back to the 14th Century, post office, and convenience store/ bicycle shop. For a main supermarket Morrisons in Plymstock is 4 miles away on the A379 towards Plymouth or Sainsburys at Marsh Mills, which is 9 miles away. The nearest banks are in Plymstock or Plymouth city centre. Riverford is a fantastic organic farm shop with everything from fruit, veg, meats, cheeses, wine and other groceries located in Yealmpton on the A379 heading east from Elburton. Somewhere to head for a little treat! Merrivale is only six miles from Plymouth where you can explore the historic Barbican area renowned for its heritage including the Mayflower Steps, cobbled streets, quaint shops, fine restaurants and bars many specialising in locally sourced produce and seafood. Around the city there is a wide selection of tourist attractions including the National Marine Aquarium with its sharks, Plymouth Pavilions with its leisure pool and ice rink, the dry ski slope or toboggan run, the Theatre Royal which hosts many pre-season London West End Shows or the Drake Circus shopping mall which offers a wide selection of top retail outlets. Other local activities include coastal walks, hiking in Dartmoor National Park, boat-hire, surfing, mountain biking, horse-riding, fishing, cinema, not forgetting Adrenaline Quarry near Liskeard, a must for thrill seekers, with the longest zip line in Britain with a special Hovercraft Flying School! As Merrivale is on the border of Devon and Cornwall you can easily explore the two counties and find within an hour or so by car as there many fine Stately Homes and gardens open to the public such as Buckland Abbey, home of Sir Francis Drake, and castles such as Tintagel with legend of King Arthur. The many other gardens in Devon and Cornwall are a special delight in the spring when they provide a blaze of dramatic colours.
Booking notes
A 25% deposit is taken on booking. The rental balance, heating supplement (if applicable) and security deposit are payable 6 weeks before your holiday start date. The cautionary security/breakages deposit is £200 and will be refunded once the house has been checked over and usually within a week after leaving. For short breaks please enquire. Low season heating supplement of £40 per week.

Fabulous uninterrupted sea views, peaceful location and a spacious house. Merrivale is handy for Devon and Cornwall with close proximity to the historic Barbican and Plymouth Hoe. This is the undiscovered part of the south coast between Salcombe and Looe!
