Hay Cottage is a delightful 18th century Grade II listed thatched cottage tucked away down a lane in the heart of the old village of Malborough, near Salcombe. The village features a shop, two old inns serving food, a restaurant and garage. There are many sandy beaches within a few miles and fabulous walking along the South West coastal path. Salcombe, with its sheltered estuary and excellent sailing and water sports, is approx 2 miles away. The historic market town of Kingsbridge is 4 miles. The towns of Exeter, Plymouth, Totnes and Dartmouth are all approx 1 hours drive, as is the beautiful landscape of Dartmoor.

Changeover day
Friday is changeover day. Arrival after 3pm, departure by 10 am.

| Other: | Garden room newly converted from stone 'piggeries' with CD player and games. A peaceful place to sit, with direct access into walled garden. |
| Cleaning/towels/ linen/maid service: |
Bath towels and bedlinen provided. Beach towels and cot bedding to be brought by guests. Cleaning takes place at end of stay at owner's cost but we ask guests to leave the property in a clean and tidy state, or extra cleaning charges will be made. |
Notes on accommodation
This is a child-friendly cottage. The back garden is fully enclosed and overlooked by the kitchen and garden room. A travel cot suitable for up to 24 months is provided plus stair gate and high chair, as are children's toys, books and games. Night storage heating is provided in April, May and October free of charge. We regret no pets.

Accessibility
Downstairs bedroom and bathroom are accessed via two small steps so may not be suitable for wheelchair users. The upstairs bath has handles.
Outside
At the back of the cottage is a very pretty enclosed walled garden with mature planting, a lawn, barbecue and garden furniture. It is particularly colourful in spring when the bluebells are in bloom.
Coast/Beach
The cottage is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, close to many beaches in the South Hams area. Soar Mill Cove, good for bird spotting,and with good rock pools, is 5 mins by car or 45 mins stroll down country lanes. Salcombe, a few minutes away by car (or bus), has beautiful sandy beaches on both sides of the estuary, as well as excellent water sports. Bantham and Bigbury are popular surfing destinations and both have safe, sandy beaches. Hope Cove is great for rock pools.
Golf
Bigbury and Thurlestone are two well established clifftop courses, both about 20 minutes drive.
Travel
Exeter airport is about an hour's drive. Plymouth, for ferries from France and Spain, is 25 miles. A car is recommended although there is an hourly bus service to Salcombe and Kingsbridge.

Salcombe 2 miles; Kingsbridge 4 miles; Totnes, historic market town with nearest train station and rare breeds farm, 20 miles; steam railway at Dartmouth, 15 miles; otter sanctuary and butterfly farm at Buckfast, 20 miles; Plymouth with aquarium and historic harbour, 25 miles. All distances approx.
Further details
Small co-op supermarket with cashpoint, off licence and petrol station in Malborough (2 min walk); major banks in Salcombe and Kingsbridge. Large supermarket (Morrissons) in Kingsbridge.
In Malborough the two village pubs, the Old Inn and The Royal Oak, serve food; both pubs also have regular live music.
Salcombe is very lively at night in the Summer with numerous restaurants and pubs, many overlooking the water. Salcombe Festival happens in June; Salcombe Town Regatta and Salcombe Yacht Club Regatta take place in August. There is a grand fireworks finale to the second regatta in mid August.
Kingsbridge has a cinema and indoor swimming pool.

A wonderful stay in Hay Cottage, a real home from home, warm, comfortable and so well equipped in such a beautiful part of the world.
This has to be one of the best cottages we have stayed in. Walk to Salcombe was rewarding - great pasties for lunch - got bus back!
Lovely cottage in an ideal location. Everyone loved North Sands beach at Salcombe, especially the children.
