Family House, Large Garden, Sunny Terrace, 100 yards to beach.
Quiet Village, 5 Minutes Walk to the Beach
Sleeps 8 (5 Bedrooms + 2 Cots)
|
|
Fox Cottage is 1 of about 20 houses in the picturesque fishing cove of Porthoustock. It has a fine view of the sea, which is a 5 minute walk down a quiet road. There is a large sunny terrace at the back, and in front, across the unmade road, an acre of garden with a stream and ponds. The cove is full of interest. There is a quarry on one side of the cove and a boat comes in 3 times a week to load up the road stone - fishermen leave from the cove to catch mackerel, bass, crabs and lobsters, divers explore the wrecks off the Manacle rocks. There is a pier for fishiing or jumping and diving at high tide. The beach is stony, the water clean and the swimming lovely and there are beautiful cliff and country walks. The footpath to St Keverne is delightful. There is a newsagents, fresh bread, an excellent butcher, groceries, café, doctor, and 2 pubs. Although near some of finest sandy beaches in south Cornwall, Porthoustock itself is quiet with little traffic. Would suit 2 families perfectly.

The house is very suitable for children and there are some toys and games there for a wet day. Little children 1- 4 would need to be supervised in the garden because of the ponds and the stream. They would need to be watched on the terrace as three of the steps are steep. Sand pit. It is great to be able to walk down to the beach easily with hardly any traffic, and up the valley to the village by the beautiful footpath. Slightly older children can walk to the beach themselves, and in the garden will enjoy playing in the stream and making a den under the bog cypress.
Accessibility
The stairs are quite steep, but there is a strong hand rail. It is possible to park the car close to the the front door. Access to the terrace is up three steep steps or down three steps from the large bedroom. There are four shallow steps up to the front door.
Outside
The terrace at the back of the house is on two levels. There is a picnic table with benches, a 3'6" wooden table, and a round table with garden chairs and umbrella. Lavender and agapanthus and geraniums. The front garden is across an unmade road. It is large, grassy, and slopes down to a stream. There are willows, hydrangea, tamarisk, and two ponds. There is room for three cars to park next to the house. Further up the unmade road are three thatched cottages and then, over a style, the footpath up to St Keverne.

Guest comments
1. 'Such a nice place, far from the madding crowd, Fox Cottage has a pleasant way to it, easy to relax and just be.'
2. 'We had a lovely time, your house is very special and the location amazing. The garden looked great and the agapanthus are about to bloom.
We would love to rent your fabulous house again.'
3. 'The cottage was superb, Porthoustock and the surrounding area provided a very welcome break with some glorious days out at the local beaches and villages. We had a lovely coffee / Helford Apple Juice break at Trelowarren and went around the gallery which was also lovely. Kynance and Coverack speak for themselves but we got lunch in Coverack at the cafe which sells fabulous toasties and pizza.
We would highly recommend Fox Cottage to anyone - it immediately made us feel very much at home and I can see why it has provided so many marvellous memories for you and your family. We love the Lizard and will return - thank you for all of your help.'
