The Old Rechabite Hall, now completely renovated, was at various times ‘The Swan Inn’, a general stores, the Appledore Ice Cream Parlour, as well as being a meeting place for the Rechabites, an early 20th Century temperance society founded in Salford in the 1900s. Situated in a traffic-free street close to the harbour with views across the Torridge estuary to Instow sands, the property is within walking distance of all village amenities. Changeover day on Friday, except for Christmas/New Year 2008 bookings. Guests to leave by 10am. Friday morning. New guests to arrive not before 4pm on Friday to allow for cleaning.

Electric heating included in rental. Small children would need supervision on all stairs which are fairly steep; safety gate at top of garden steps. No smoking in the house. No dogs, stag or hen parties.

1 mile away at Northam Burrows.

Travel
Bristol (Lulsgate) 1.5 hour by car; Exeter similar. Car hire useful if coming from overseas.

Distances
Bideford (3 miles), Barnstable (8 miles) pannier markets, banks, shops. Braunton Burrows and Saunton Sands (15 miles) nature reserve, walking, surfing, World Heritage Site. Clovelly (14 mile) picturesque fishing village. RHS Rosemoor Gardens (14 miles). Easy day excursions to Exmoor, Dartmoor, North Devon and North Cornwall coast.

Further details
Appledore offers a choice of several pubs and restaurants. It has a post office, small supermarket, delicatessen, newsagents, art and craft galleries, plus fresh fish from the quayside. All these are within close walking distance. Further afield there is a huge choice of themed children's activities. Ideal for safe cycling along the Tarka Trail, beautiful coastal walks, birdwatching, sea fishing. Live music in many of the local hostelries.
