Upper Court is a stunning historical estate near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. The Herfords have been welcoming guests to Upper Court since 1974 and, although we are always up-dating things, we hope our original guests still find the special atmosphere they came for originally. Holiday Cottages - we offer five self catering holiday cottages set in 15 acres of magnificent grounds and gardens. Sleeping between two and eleven guests individually and greater numbers in combination, they offer superb self catering holiday accommodation for a couple, family, extended family or large group wishing to stay in the Cotswolds. Coach House can seat up to 28 for dinner.

Changeover day
Our changeover day is Friday (Monday considered). We either do three night weekend breaks from Friday to Monday or four night midweek breaks from Monday to Friday. Midweek short breaks are priced the same as weekend breaks and offer excellent value.

Stables (2 Bedrooms)

The Stables (sleeps 4-5) The Stables near Tewkesbury is an ideal self catering holiday cottage for a family holiday in the Cotswolds. Converted from the original stables downstairs and hayloft upstairs, it offers perfect accommodation for those requiring either one or two bedrooms. For a couple, it is very cosy using just the downstairs rooms. It can also be used by a larger group to extend the accommodation offered by The Coach House or Courtyard Cottage. Accommodation: Sitting room with a large corner fireplace with a gas flame stove. Open plan dining area with table seating six. Kitchen with Zanussi stainless steel range. Small washing machine in cupboard under the stairs. Ground floor bedroom with double bed (5 ft). Family bathroom with bath and separate shower. Steep stairs to the second bedroom with double bed (4 ft 6 in), one single bed (3 ft) under the eaves, and views of Bredon Hill. Upstairs wet shower room with wc and basin. |

Courtyard Cottage (3 Bedrooms)

Courtyard Cottage (sleeps 6-8) Courtyard Cottage is a self catering holiday cottage suitable for a family holiday in the Cotswolds. Entered from the right of the courtyard archway coming from the manor and next to the Stables, this lovely cottage, features bow windows and lovely views of the gardens and Bredon Hill. It offers spacious living accommodation on the ground floor with bedrooms on the two floors above. Accommodation: Beamed lounge with antique pine fireplace, gas flame stove, Coalfax and Fowler chintz, 17th century oak dresser, sofa and plenty of chairs. Dining room with two tables seating up to 16 guests. Two-level kitchen with breakfast table and access to the courtyard for eating out. Double bedroom (5 ft bed) with fitted cupboards Twin bedroom .Third bedroom in original hayloft on top floor with double bed (4 ft 6 in) and twin beds (3 ft). One family bathroom and one shower room. |

Dovecote (sleeps 2 + 1) The Dovecote is a beautiful self catering holiday cottage for two or a couple plus an infant. Overlooking the lake, this property makes a romantic hideaway for a very special holiday in the Cotswolds. Accommodation: Open plan lounge/kitchen downstairs with underfloor heating, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, Belfast sink, electric oven and hob, TV & DVD player, freeview and wi-fi. Large double bedroom on first floor with early 19th century four-poster with pocket-sprung mattress. Second floor room with bathroom, shower over bath at one end and double bed at dressing room end. |

Accessibility
We do have some cottages that have bedrooms on the ground floor making them accessible to wheelchair users.
Outside
Especially popular with children, the extensive gardens and grounds, extending to 15 acres, match the quality of the buildings. Guests are free to wander in the grounds, the centrepiece of which is a beautiful two acre lake that is home to a variety of wildfowl, swans, ducks and geese that all love to be fed. There are lots of spots suitable for romantic picnics, or you might even take the boat out. The millstream and watermill (now ruined) are mentioned in the Doomsday Book (1086).
Besides the extensive gardens and grounds, which you are free to explore, you are also welcome to use our covered outdoor swimming pool and tennis court.
There is also a croquet lawn and table tennis table for the use of guests.
Special interest holidays
Pottery classes for children and adults are now run at Upper Court by Oliver Herford. There are usually three wheels and beginners, experienced potters, hen parties and family parties Classes need to be pre booked through Upper Court and include two hours' tuition. You will spend half an hour on the wheel, plus clay and two kiln firings, one bisque and one glaze. You also get chance to paint your own design on a bisque fired mug or plate.
Artist Auriol Herford is also offering workshops for all ages. Anyone can enjoy the rich language of print making, life drawing and painting in these beautiful surroundings.

Travel
We are approximately two hours from London with good motorway access and regular trains running from London Paddington to either Cheltenham or Evesham.
Birmingham Airport is a 45 minute drive.
Distances
At just four miles away, Tewkesbury is our nearest town. We are seven miles from Cheltenham Racecourse, eight miles from Broadway, ten miles from Sudeley Castle, about 18 miles from Stow-on-the-Wold and Stratford-upon-Avon, and 22 miles from Warwick Castle. There are also many National Trust houses and gardens to visit locally, including Snowshill Manor and Kifsgate in Chipping Campden. We are close to the Rivers Avon and Severn, on which excellent coarse fishing and boating are available.
Booking notes
A non-refundable deposit of one third of the cost of the holiday is required at the time of booking. Reservations will not be treated as complete until the deposit has been received. The balance is payable eight weeks prior to the arrival date. If the booking is made within eight weeks of the arrival date, the rent must be paid in full at the time of booking. Payment can be made by credit card, debit card or cheque.
