Town Farm is a working farm nestled at the foot of the Chiltern Hills and has been run by the Leach family since the early 1930s. About 1000 sheep are farmed on the Beacon Hill and surrounding high ground, while the lower fields are used for crop cultivation. The 'pick your own' opens in June and guests can take a picnic and stock up on fruit and vegetables. The farm enjoys fantastic views of the surrounding countryside including the local landmark - Ivinghoe Beacon, which marks the start of the famous Ridgeway Walk. Free Range Eggs available from the chickens on the farm.

Owner profile
About the owner
I originally come from Cape Town, South Africa, but have been letting our holiday cottages since 1995. My husband's family have had the farm since the 1930's.
Many of our guests have enjoyed staying with us from all parts of the world and appreciate the beautiful countryside around us and there is always plenty to do.
Year purchased: before 1950
Why the owner chose a home in this location
The farm overlooks Ivinghoe Beacon, the beginning of the Ridgeway Path, a National Trail which goes through to Avebury in Wiltshire. The trail is 87 miles (139km) long, much of it following the ancient chalk ridge route used by prehistoric man.
We love the area because you can be in the middle of the countryside one minute and hopping on the train for a 50 minute ride to London the next. We are also close to the Grand Union Canal which stretches from London to Birmingham and which offers leisurely walks and boat hire. We are also only around an hour from Stratford on Avon, a little further to Oxford and Cambridge, and is a good basis for sightseeing.
Unique benefits of the property
The cottage is on a working farm, part of which is a "Pick Your Own". In the summer months you can walk down to the strawberry fields, stopping for an ice cream while down there. The pick your own also grows a huge variety of other fruits and vegetables. The cottage is comfortably furnished and offers all the convenience of your own home, with dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also a shared tennis court as well as a small play area and trampoline for the children.
