Notes on accommodation
Router and antenna provides access to WiFi for purchase by the week from a local supplier. Air-conditioning units are high quality inverter models and are twin mode, i.e. they can be set to heat in winter. There is also a convection heater.
Accessibility
Probably not wheelchair accessible. There is a ramp at about 40 degrees to the apartment block entrance and the lift is rather narrow at 69.5 cm wide.
Outside
Shared swimming pool (1.5m at deepest, 1.0m at shallowest), regularly cleaned, with sun-loungers. Dimensions of pool unknown but much larger than most in the area. Note that pool is unsupervised therefore at user's risk.
Coast/Beach
The closest beach approved by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation is 3 kilometres (2 miles) away. Hotel beaches, which can be used for a small fee, are even closer on the same road (Dhekelia Road). For other good, sandy beaches go east towards Paralimni. There is also a beach in front of the promenade in Larnaca.
Golf
The number of golf courses is gradually increasing and are currently all in the Paphos area (about 1 hour's drive from Larnaca). They are Elea (newest), Aphrodite Hills, Tsada and Secret Valley.
Travel
Easyjet started flights to Larnaca in 2009. Driving is on the left, as in the UK. Over-70s car hire is offered by Sixt and possibly other firms (Avis, Astra, Hertz, Petsas). Larnaca airport: about 15 minutes drive. Paphos airport: about 1.0 - 1.5 hour's drive. Car hire strongly recommended as buses come once every few hours and stop by 6pm.
Distances
Oroklini village 5-10 minute walk, Larnaca town promenade: 10-15 minute drive, Limassol (Lemesos): 40 minute drive, Nicosia (Lefkosia) capital: 45 minute drive, Paphos 60 minute drive. Northern Cyprus: about 30 minutes via Dhekelia road, Pyla or Dhekelia base (bring your passport and money for extra insurance). See 'Further details' section.
Further details
English is widely spoken and often to a very high standard. Cyprus uses UK-style three-pin plugs. National currency from 2008 is the euro. Cyprus is generally a safe place to visit with a low crime rate. Travelling to northern Cyprus. The northern part of Cyprus (Greek Cypriot description: 'Turkish-occupied areas'; Turkish Cypriot description: 'Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus'; EU description: 'area not under the effective control of the government of the Republic of Cyprus; neutral version: 'the north/northern Cyprus') is as safe for travel as the south but we aware that a) the speed cameras actually work and b) you are liable to arrest by the Turkish army if take photos around military areas, which includes the abandoned beach town of Varosha/Marash. English is less widely spoken than in the south though most young people speak a little. The Turkish Cypriots allow rental cars from the south to cross but you will have to buy additional 3-day insurance that may only cover you for third party damage. Also the rental company in the south is unlikely to cover you for travel in the north, as they don't recognize each other's authorities. In other words, you take rental cars north at your own risk. You can reach the north via several crossing points. The most straightforward is to take the car on the Dhekelia road (the beach road) and keep going straight. Follow signs to Famagusta until you come across Turkish flags, at which point you show your passport and pay additional insurance. You can also cross by car via Pyla, Dhekelia garrison and in Nicosia via the Ayios Dhometios road. You can cross by foot at both Ledra Street and Ledra Palace in Nicosia. In all cases you will need your passport. They will not stamp it (the TRNC is not internationally recognised) but will stamp a piece of paper instead.
Booking notes
Credit card payments are now possible via PayPal. Payment by PayPal, cheque or bank transfer: 50% to secure booking; the remaining 50% six weeks prior to arrival.

About the owner
I work for myself running my own consultancy company, Sapienta Economics Ltd. My main clients right now are the Economist Intelligence Unit (sister of Economist magazine) and the United Nations "good offices" mission. I have been living and working in Nicosia since 2002. This is the only property I rent and I visit it regularly to give it a lick of paint, replace broken glasses and generally make sure that it remains up to the high standard that guests expect. I haven't loaded a photo of myself because of the scare stories about ID theft!

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
I find downtown Larnaca to be the most charming town in Cyprus and I liked Oroklini for its traditional feel. I bought the apartment itself because of the high quality of finish and the large pool.
Unique benefits of the property
Unlike many properties this apartment is equipped to a high standard with all the cutlery, crockery, even salt and pepper you might need for your stay. Broken or worn out equipment is regularly replaced to ensure that you enjoy the highest standards during your stay.
New, quieter, 'inverter' air-conditioning units made by GREE (supplier to Daikin) were installed in August 2010.
The apartment is professionally managed by a locally based company so that if there are any problems your needs will be immediately attended to. In the past four years I have always had repeat visitors (and that doesn't just include family!)
