This large, comfortable villa is in a secluded development of seven, all detached in their own spacious walled gardens and with private pools. Dogankoy is a pretty village that sits in the foothills of the Besparmak Mountains, close to Kyrenia. There are several shops and restaurants within easy walking distance of the villa. The commercial town centre and the old town around the historic harbour are 20 minutes walk away. The villas are set in olive groves and the garden itself has five mature olive trees- one believed to be a thousand years old. The garden is gravelled and is planted with flowering shrubs, orange, lemon and other fruit trees. All bedrooms have air-conditioning; the master bedroom has an en suite bathroom, one twin room has en-suite shower room and the other twin room has an adjoining shower room. Outdoor terraces overlook the private pool, which is 8x4m. At pool level there is a shaded terrace with kitchenette. Sunbeds and parasols are set around the pool terrace.

Notes on accommodation
The villa has roomy north-facing terraces which provide welcome shade in the height of the summer. Similarly, south-facing terraces make the most of the winter sun. The villa is comfortably equipped for winter rentals, with full oil-fired central heating and an open wood fire in the lounge. The air-conditioning units provide additional heat to the bedrooms.

Outside
North and south facing terraces overlook the gardens which are gravelled and planted with trees and shrubs. There is no play area for children. The private pool is 8x4m, set in a garden with high walls and boundary shrubs for privacy. There are sun loungers and parasols for use on the terrace by the pool or the upstairs terrace. There is a shaded terrace at pool level which has a fitted kitchenette, including fridge and sink, and table and chairs, for your enjoyment of poolside meals and drinks. Charcoal barbecues are provided.
Coast/Beach
Local beaches are from 10 minutes drive away. Of particular interest is Alagadi beach, some 25 minutes drive away, where environmental protection measures are in place to allow turtles to breed unhindered. Between July and September visitors can attend escorted tours to see the turtles lay their eggs, and later watch the hatchlings emerge. A two-hour drive will take you to miles of quiet golden beaches on the Karpaz peninsula.
Golf
The Korineum Golf and Country Club, offering an 18-hole championship golf course, with driving range and academy, is approximately 30 minutes drive away near the resort of Esentepe. Set in 65 hectares, the course is maintained to the Royal and Ancient Best Course Policy Initiative. Handicap: Women 36, Men 28. Resident PGA qualified pro. Clubs and shoes can be hired. Club house has lovely restaurant and bar with spectacular views, fitness room and spa. North Cyprus is great for golf in autumn, winter and spring, with generally warm and sunny days - perfect!
Travel
Ercan airport, the main hub for northern Cyprus, is 45 minutes drive. Currently, flights from the UK to Ercan have to touch down in Turkey first. Alternatively, it is possible to fly directly to Larnaca in southern Cyprus, which is 1½ hour's drive away. Contact the owners if you need help and/or further information about flights, airport transfer and car hire. Local shops and restaurants are within walking distance, as are the facilities in Kyrenia town, so car hire is not essential.
Distances
Kyrenia centre is a delightful 20 minute walk through the old Turkish quarter. The ancient monastery and village of Bellapais, with stunning views and good restaurants, is a 5 min drive. The capital, Lefkosa, is a 25 min drive. 15 min drive into the Besparmak mountains gives access to good walking country, much of it forested and with panoramic views of the island. The unspoilt Karpaz peninsula is a day's round trip, with a wild mixture of rugged mountains and golden sandy, empty beaches.
Further details
Local shops stock a wealth of local produce, and two good supermarkets are 10 minutes walk or 5 minutes drive away, as are specialist bakeries offering a fabulous range of bread, pastries and cakes. The kitchen of the villa is well equipped for the keen cook, and the range of high quality fresh produce that is available locally - meat, fish, fruit and vegetables - makes dining in a pleasure.
Alternatively there are several good restaurants within easy walking distance with a wide variety of cuisines, and many more a car or taxi ride away. The pretty village of Bellapais is a 5 minute drive away, and offers a variety of gift shops and restaurants, as well as beautiful views of coast and mountains. There are many banks in the town with ATM machines, and several exchange bureaux offering competitive rates. North Cyprus is perfect for sun-worshippers, and in the height of summer, for many guests, it is difficult to stray too far away from the terrace and pool. However, there are many interesting places to visit, and the spring and autumn months provide perfect weather for walking and exploring the many historical sites as well as the beautiful countryside. There are guidebooks and maps in the bookcase in the lounge of the villa describing many of the principal attractions.
