Bougainvillea is a recently completed privately owned three bedroom villa nestling in the mountains approximately 15 minutes from the idyllic port of Kyrenia. The villa has its own private terrace and pool with the addition of a first floor terrace from which to enjoy the surrounding vista.

Changeover day
The changeover day is flexible. You are responsible for booking your own flights and car hire, however, we can provide details on how to do this.

Accessibility
The property is suitable for wheelchair users. (There are a few steps to negotiate down to the front door and down to the pool.) Please note that the shower/toilet facility downstairs is adjacent to the bedroom so there is no need have to negotiate the stairs. Further information may be obtained by contacting us directly.
Outside
Outside the villa there is a private terrace with a 10 x 5m swimming pool. The terrace is fully equipped with sunbeds, parasols, table and chairs for alfresco dining and a gas BBQ. There is also parking facilities and a newly landscaped garden.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is the popular Escape Beach with sun loungers, bar/cafe and scuba diving facilities and this takes approximately 10 minutes to reach by car on the road heading towards Kyrenia. There are also plenty of quieter alternatives to be found off of the main highway but if you want something really special then a visit to Turtle Beach is a must and this takes approximately 30 minutes to reach by car on the road through to Esentepe.
Travel
The nearest airport in Northern Cyprus is Ercan airport which is approximately 40 minutes from from the villa by car. Alternately, you can fly into Larnaca in the South but you must pre-arrange a taxi from the North to come and collect you and take you over the border (this costs around about £50 each way for a family of 4 and takes about 1½ hour door to door). Please note that hiring a car is essential because the villa is in a quiet location away from the main highway.
Distances
The nearest village to the villa is Alsancak which is a 5 minute drive away. For sightseeing there is Bellapaise Abbey with its stunning views of the surrounding countryside and this takes approximately 30 minutes to reach by car. There is also the beautiful medieval Port of Kyrenia which takes approximately 15 minutes to reach by car. For those who wish to travel further there is a wealth of castles, archaeological sites and beaches scattered around the coast worth investigating.
Further details
On your arrival a welcome pack will be waiting for you with enough essentials to get you through the first evening, for example; bread, milk, butter, cheese, marmalade, juice, water, tea, coffee and a bottle of wine, (all subject to availability). The local supermarket can provide for all the rest of your self catering needs and details of local restaurants can be found in the villa. Most of the cuisine in the local restaurants is Turkish Cypriot and this usually consists of a choice of `meze', (a selection of hot and cold hors d'oeuvres), freshly caught fish, lamb chops, steaks and kebabs. There are other types of cuisine to be had for those who do not want traditional Turkish Cypriot food, for example there are Chinese and curry resturants on the main road into Kyrenia. Please note that some restaurants and shops don't take credit cards (although this is improving) the preferred method of payment is GBP or Turkish Lira. As of September 2006, a DVD is available upon request giving, not just a virtual tour of the villa, but also footage of places of interest and other activities that Northern Cyprus offers.
Booking notes
A deposit of 20% of the total rent charge is payable on booking and the balance is due 8 weeks prior to departure. There is a £150 refundable bond per booking against breakages or damages and this is payable with the balance of your payment and returned to you one week after the end of your holiday when the villa has been checked. Cancellation charges are as follows: Up to 8 weeks the deposit. 55 to 29 days 60% of total cost. 28 days 100% of total cost.

About the owner
I live in West Sussex with my husband and two teenage children. We use the villa ourselves at least once a year and never want to come home once we are there! We enjoy the peace and quiet and the views across to the sea and the mountains behind. We have made many friends, both locals and people staying around us and feel very much at home as soon as we come down over the mountain from the airport and see Kyrenia in front of us.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We had a holiday in a nearby hotel and fell in love with the area and decided to buy our own place. The nearby medieval harbour in Kyrenia is absolutely charming with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. There is plenty to do outside of sunning yourself like sight seeing many of the archaeology sites such as the roman Salamis palace, St Hilarion & Kyrenia castle (first mentioned when Richard 1st conquered Cyprus). For the more active there is also paragliding, scuba diving, water sports and a new golf course. There are boat trips during the day or sunset trips in the evening which we did this year for the first time. We negotiated having the boat to ourselves with just our friends who were out with us which was a great way to eat and see the sunset from a different perspective.
Unique benefits of the property
Its a quiet location slightly up in the mountains with access to all activities and amenities necessary to enjoy your holiday. There are only 9 villas on the development and we have never been there when more than 4 have been occupied so its always peaceful. The views from the roof terrace (where we have breakfast) are stunning with mountains behind and the sea in front. The kitchen is fully fitted with a washing machine, dishwasher, oven/hob, fridge freezer and microwave. The pool is ideal for a family holiday with steps down at the shallow end and is a great way to cool off after lying in the warm sun. Each of the 3 bedrooms has air conditioning to keep you cool at night in the summer months. There is plenty of space around the pool for 6 loungers with parasols.
