The villa is a spacious family home near the village of Karmi / Karaman, about 15 minutes from Kyrenia. It is set in a wonderful position with views of the mountains and the sea. The house has three bedrooms and can sleep 6 comfortably, but additional beds are available if you need them. The house is air conditioned and well equipped. Set in a large garden of about an acre, with established olive, cypress and citrus trees, and the large patio outside, perfect for summer evenings, is draped in bougainvillea and jasmine. Steps lead down to the terrace below the house, where there is a large private swimming pool (5x10m) with changing facilities. The pool has a shaded area and sunbeds, chairs and parasols. We have an agent in the village nearby who will visit you to check that everything is OK and who will be on hand to help you with any queries (she can also arrange taxi transfers, car hire etc).

Changeover day
Takeover day is usally Saturday, but we can be flexible with early bookings. Check-in time is 4pm or later and check-out time is 10am or earlier.

Additional beds are available if needed.
Bathrooms: En-suite with shower, bath and WC.
Bathroom 2 (for bedrooms 2 and 3) with shower and WC.
Kitchen: All the equipment you are likely to need - electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer dishwasher, washing machine. Pots, pans, cutlery, glasses and utensils.
Utility Room: There is an iron and ironing board in the under-stairs cupboard, and there is also a free-standing rack for drying clothes.
Living Rooms: The main sitting room has a sofa, armchairs and satellite TV/DVD player. The bookcase houses books, games and local information. It leads through an archway to an elegant dining room with seating for 8.
Other: The study between the kitchen and patio can be used as an extra sitting or dining area.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
The house will be cleaned prior to your arrival and on your departure. Sheets and bathroom towels are provided, but please bring your own beach towels.

 

Notes on accommodation
The three bedrooms and the kitchen have air-conditioners and the rent includes a weekly electricity allowance of £150. This is easily adequate to run the bedroom air conditioners at night and the kitchen occasionally during the day.

Accessibility
The ground floor is level except for one step in the hallway and between the sitting room and dining room.

Outside
The patio is a key feature of the house, and comes with an outside dining table, chairs and barbecue. It is a wonderful spot to spend the evening looking down towards Kyrenia in the distance or up at St Hilarion castle and the mountains. The patio is decked with bougainvillea and jasmine, and in the evening there is sometimes a soft breeze. The pool is completely private and well screened. It is maintained by a pool company, and they come twice a week to check the chlorine levels etc. The gardener comes once or twice a week to water the plants and trees. Please feel free to help yourself to any flowers and fruit.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is about 10 minutes drive at the bottom of the hill, and there are various pay beaches in the vicinity of Kyrenia. These tend to have facilities like sunbeds, showers, water sports etc. The more remote beaches, such as Horseshoe Bay and Turtle Beach are free and tend to be much quieter, although even these can get busy on Sundays.

Travel
The nearest airport in North Cyprus is Ercan, served by Cyprus Turkish Airlines or Turkish Airlines. All these flights involve a 1 hour stopover in Turkey. The taxi from the airport costs about £25 and takes 50 minutes. It is also possible to fly to Larnaca in South Cyprus and get a taxi across the border. Airlines serving Larnaca include British Airways, Cyprus Airways, Monarch and EasyJet. The taxi from the airport costs about £50 and takes about 2 hours. Car hire is essential.

Distances
There are a couple of places to eat withing walking distance 9under 5 minutes) and Karmi (also known as Karaman) is about a mile away. Kyrenia, which has a lovely old harbour, is about 10 miles away. The capital Nicosia is about 25 miles away.

Further details
There is an excellent range of supermarkets at the bottom of the hill in Karaoglanoglu, and there are more shops in Kyrenia. Both Karaoglanoglu and Kyrenia have numerous bars and restaurants, and there are several cash machines in Kyrenia. Places to visit are the castles at St Hilarion and Kyrenia, the abbey at Bellapais, the ruined hilltop monasteries, the Roman remains at Salamis and the old part of Nicosia. For the more adventurous, a trip to the deserted and spectacular Karpass area (the Panhandle) can be a memorable experience.
