Located on the edge of the old part of the village this beautiful old stone house was once a winery. The subject of progressive modernisation it nstill retains many original features including antique shutter doors, exposed stone walls, pithara wine vats (now as ornament) and a very well preserved stone bread oven in the yard. Differing from complete renovation projects and dedicated holiday lets, this property exhibits a "lived in ambience".
The spacious first floor balcony provides views over the coasts at Pissouri Bay, Kourion Beach and the port of Limassol. Close to the more famous Omodos it is 20-30 mins by car from the sea, 30 mins from Limassol and 30 mins to the Troodos mountains. It is situated 600m above sea level making it cooler than on the coast in the summer months. Adjacent to open country, convenient walks along vineyard tracks with maginicent vistas to the south and west.

Notes on accommodation
Air conditioning and / or ceiling fan in all rooms. Second bedroom and balcony are reached by an external stone stairway which is hand railed to one side only. With a low wall to the other side there is a long drop down to the lane. It is not recommended for the elderly/infirm and presents a significant hazard to unsupervised young children. Please check when enquiring. More details are available. The house is a second family home and not set out as a minimal holiday let. The facilities are therefore more extensive than normally expected but it is impracticable in such a hot and dusty climate to fully clean the whole house at every changeover. The house is let as single occupancy and prepared before each occupancy. A discount may be available if one of the bedrooms does not need to be prepared, fitted out with linen or cleaned.

Outside
There is a large patio/courtyard which is totally private being surrounded by a high stone wall. In season a mature grapevine gives shade over some of the courtyard. Outside loungers & furniture supplied. A spa-tub is available in the season at an extra charge of £35 per week - please bring your own beach towels. It will be cleaned & set up ready for your use if you have taken it. The entrance through the wall opens out onto a local lane serving just one family. The land opposite provides off street car parking for two cars (one under a sun shelter).

Coast/Beach
Good roads lead straight to the coast highway and the beaches in 25 mins on average. Pissouri Jetty and the beach at Kourion offer all of the usual resort facilities. Closer & less well known is Avdimou bay with two highly recommended fish restaurants, one at each end. For very quiet and secluded bathing, Paramali offers just a beach (stony) and a car park – take your own picnic. Lady’s Mile beach shelves steeply but is convenient for lunch after a trip to Limassol.

Golf
Golf courses are about 30 mins drive away.

Skiing
Skiing facilities available in the Troodos mountains but enquiries would have to be made by hirer.

Travel
We would suggest that a car is essential and we can make an introduction to known local hire companies if requested. Whichever you choose you can expect the car to be waiting for you at the airport. There are no hire facilities in the village. Paphos Airport is about 40 mins drive. Limassol about 30 mins. There is only a limited local bus service and is not really relevant. Taxi service is limited.

Distances
Pakhna is on the southern slopes of the Troodos, above Episkopi Bay, and well placed for visiting the popular tourist locations. Omodos, famous for it's monastery is the closest tourist destination leading on to Platres and the Troodos. The Paphos/Limassol highway is 15 mins to the south leading also to Polis, Akamas, Paralimni and Nicosia which are easily reached for day trips. The winding cross country routes are picturesque but winding and wearing.

Further details
The house is in Pano Pakhna, the older part of a small typically Cypriot working village. (If you use Google Earth enter Pakhna, Cyprus, even though that spelling is rarely used locally). The village boasts many stone built houses with private courtyards built on an original and rather quaint and tight road plan. Although some recent refurbishment work has been taking place, including on the local church and its sqauer, the basic character remains unaltered. It is still very quiet. It has one local supermarket to serve basic needs. Kato Pakhna is the more developed half of the village down below which would be reached by car in a few mins but can also be easily reached on a pleasant circular walk. There you can find a bank, police station, butchers, more supermarkets, a restaurant, takeaway and delicatessen. There are many other good local restaurant and tavernas at other villages in the vicinity. The largest supermarkets are down on the highway –where you will find most familiar products as well as local produce. The countryside is immediately outside the front door and there are many opportunities for a stroll or more energetic walks. The country tracks are local farm access roads and walking boots would not normally be a necessity. Whether you walk or drive you are never far away from a viewpoint offering wonderful vistas over the surrounding hills and the sea beyond. You can see Kourion beach, the Akrotiri peninsular and Pissouri from our balcony and views over the Olympus mountain range are just a stroll away.
Local guided walks are available, which take in wine tasting at the family run Monolithos Winery in Pakhna, ending with a meal at the Linos restaurant. These are free, you only have to pay for your meal which is modestly priced. A starter pack of basic foodstuffs can be arranged for you when you arrive if you don’t plan to visit any of the many supermarkets en route. The bill should be settled locally before you leave.

Booking notes
50% of the rental payable to secure the booking. Remainder due 6 weeks before arrival to include any spa tub payments and £100 security deposit against damage or loss suffered during your stay. This is fully refundable. We will always need time to contact the housekeeper before confirming any booking, and bookings can be reserved while flights are confirmed. Contact the owner for clarification. Payment can be made in Sterling or Euro.
