This family-owned and architect re-designed villa enjoys an elevated position with stunning views over the channel between the Peljesac Peninsula and Korcula Island, and across to other nearby islands. It's an 8-10 minutes walk downhill to swimming areas in the sea and a 15 minute walk or 3-5 minute drive to the nearest beach. Villa Philomena was fully renovated in 2005 and is very spacious internally at 210sqm. All 4 bedrooms are large with lovely sea views and there are 3 shower/wetrooms (one en-suite). Relax and dine on 3 front terraces and 1 rear terrace set against Mount Illijah. Viganj is perfect for swimming, watersports, outdoor activities, culinary pleasures and more besides. Notes on prices
Prices are in UK Pounds, for the whole villa for seven nights.
Changeover day
We generally book the villa from Saturday to Saturday and we request checkout for 10am. The villa is then cleaned and prepared for the next guests to arrive from 4pm.
Accommodation
| Bedrooms: | Bedroom 1 is a double room (5m x 4m) with en-suite shower room and WC. Bedroom 2 is a double room (5m x 4m). Bedroom 3 is a triple room (5m x 4m). Bedroom 4 is twin room (5m x 3.5m). A huge L-shaped daybed in living room can sleep two. |
| Bathrooms: | Bedroom 1 has an en-suite shower/wetroom and WC. There are 2 more shower/wetrooms and WCs. |
| Kitchen: | The spacious kitchen is fully equipped for cooking for large parties, with plenty of workspace and oven, hob, dishwasher and microwave. There's also a large traditional stone barbeque on the top terrace to the front. |
| Utility Room: | The utility room contains a washing machine and sink, and the separate pantry has a large fridge/freezer and lots of food storage space. |
| Living Rooms: | The living room measures 6mx5m and contains a huge built-in L-shaped sofa/daybed which can sleep two. There's a TV, DVD, satellite and stereo. The dining room measures 6m x 5m and is open-plan with the kitchen, with dining table and chairs for 10 people. |
| Other: | There is a hallway on the 1st floor (7m x 2.5m) with space for sitting and reading. There are two parking spaces at the front of the villa. |

Accessibility
The villa is suitable for children but is not suitable for people of very limited mobility due to steps at the front.
Outside
There are 3 terraces to the front of the villa: a stone top terrace for dining, a second stone terrace for sunbathing, and a garden terrace for sunbathing. The living room opens through glass double-doors onto the stone top terrace with outdoor dining table and chairs for 10 people. The top terrace has a large newly-built traditional stone barbeque and there are loungers and recliners on the second stone terrace. At the back of the villa is a small stone terrace set against Mount Illijah.
Coast/Beach
It's an 8-10 min walk downhill to the sea where you can swim. (It's 10-15 minutes to walk back up!). The nearest beach is a 10-15 minute walk or 3-5 minute drive - it's a popular swimming / kitesurfing / windsurfing beach with nice relaxed restaurant and beach bar. There are other little beaches all along the waterfront.
Special interest holidays
There are many vineyards and wineries along the Peljesac Peninsula which offer wine tours. Other special interest holidays in the immediate area include sailing, mountain walking/hiking/climbing/biking, windsurfing and fishing. The protected waters are very popular with sailors, windsurfers and kitesurfers, and the 3-4 hour walk to the top of Mount Illijah (961m) offers wonderful views across both sides of the Peninsula and nearby Korcula Island.
Travel
Dubrovnik airport is a two-hour drive from Villa Philomena and Split airport is a four-hour drive. To make the most of your trip we recommend you hire a car. All of the main car-hire companies have desks at Dubrovnik and Split airports. We provide full driving directions upon booking. For further travel info see our website (link at bottom of this page).
Ferries and catamarans sail to Korcula Island from Dubrovnik, Hvar, Split, Brac etc. with links to Orebic (10 mins drive to villa).
Distances
The centre of Viganj village is a 10-minute walk from Villa Philomena. Orebic town is a 15-minute drive (4 miles/7km). Korcula Island is a 15-minute ferry ride from Viganj, Orebic or Kuciste (Kuciste is a village that's a 5-minute drive from Villa Philomena). Korcula Island has a delightful medieval Venetian town which is well worth a visit - the passenger ferry arrives directly into the town. Loviste village is set in a quiet bay, a beautiful 15-minute drive over Mt.Illijah from Viganj.
Further details
The nearest shop (a minimarket, deli and bakery) is at the seafront, an 8-10 minute walk from the villa. There's a bar/cafe/restaurant almost next door to that. There are many lovely restaurants, bars and cafes in Viganj and the nearby area.
Croatia's finest wines are produced on the Peljesac Peninsula and Korcula Island - these include Posip, Postup and Dingac. You can purchase these and other local wines from vineyards, markets and locals' houses!
In advance of your visit and in our guestbook at the villa we provide details and advice on shops, restaurants, banks, beaches, local travel, maps and activities (windsurfing, wakeboarding, kitesurfing, boat hire, ferries, scuba diving, mountain biking, climbing, rambling and tennis courts) - which should be more than enough to keep you busy!

Booking notes
If you book more than 60 days in advance, a £500.00 booking deposit is payable within 10 days of booking. The balance of the rental fee is payable no less than 60 days before the start of the rental period and a £500 damage deposit is payable two weeks before the start of the rental period.
If you book less than 60 days in advance, the rental fee and £500 damage deposit are payable in full within 10 days of booking.

About the owner
I live in England and we bought Villa Philomena as a family property. One of my sons, Viv, is an architect and he redesigned the villa internally during his three years living in Croatia - which included holding his Wedding celebrations in Villa Philomena! My other two sons also lived in the area while the villa was being renovated. We all enjoy spending time in Viganj at various times of the year, visiting the many kind friends we’ve made in the area.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We looked at several different areas in Croatia before deciding upon Viganj. I holidayed here several years ago and we feel this is the most beautiful part of the country. Viganj combines relaxing tranquillity with a wide range of activities and attractions while providing easy access to lovely villages, bays and islands nearby. The Dalmatian culture also means there's a wonderful selection of foods and wines available locally.

Villa Philomena’s elevated position provides stunning 180-degree views of the channel between the Peninsula and Korcula Island. It’s a particularly private setting for relaxing outdoors yet is only an 8-10 minute walk downhill to all the activities on the waterfront.
