Orange Grove House is not your typical holiday house by the sea. Originally a convent, it is extremely spacious with large airy rooms, all of which have lovely views either over the harbour or the secluded citrus orchard behind the house. The property's size, the nature of its construction out of Brac stone, and its soundproof qualities, make it very suitable for two related families to share a holiday there, each one having a floor to themselves and sharing the TV room, kitchen, dining terrace and small sun terrace for meals and recreation. Set slightly back from the sea the house occupies a central position in the village, a moment's walk from the local fruit and vegetable market, supermarket and bakery. Fresh fish can be bought from the fishermen on the quay. Postira is only 6km from main ferry port at Supetar so access is easy. In Croatia, most houses like this are in multiple occupation.

Changeover day
Preferred changeover day is Saturday. However, if there is availability the owners will be flexible. Arrival after 3pm, departure before 10am. At end of season owners are very flexible over price and start date.

Bedrooms: 3 double bedrooms (2 huge bedrooms with new king-size beds, 1 with a new queen-size bed).
1 very large bedroom with twin beds in it.
Sofabed in TV room.
Bathrooms: Large, well appointed bathroom with large shower cubicle, washbasin and WC. Lovely views over harbour. Second bathroom with bath, washbasin, WC reached via external stone staircase to ground floor.
Kitchen: Refurbished kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, full-size electric cooker with oven. Kitchen table with 4 chairs. Plentiful china and kitchen equipment.
Utility Room: The house has been redecorated throughout and new super-duper king-sized beds, mattresses and other new furniture have been purchased.
Living Rooms: Small but adequate TV room with two large sofas, one of which is a sofa bed [comfortably seats 5 adults]. TV/satellite accesses programmes in English, French, Italian and German as well as Croatian.
Other: There is a semi-tiled rear dining terrace (the remainder is covered by a kiwi vine) which has a large white table seating 8 people, a large electric barbeque and a small sink with running water for cleaning fish.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
Linen and towels are included. The property is cleaned on changeover day. Linen is changed at the same time. The cleaner does not normally visit during a 2 week stay but a midstay clean and laundry change can be arranged by paying DPM 80 euros direct.

 

Notes on accommodation
There are space heaters in the main bedroom and the TV room and plentiful fan heaters for the winter months.
The 100 sq metre enclosed garden makes this property suitable for young children (although care should be taken with the stone steps down to the garden).

Outside
At the rear is a 100sq.m. walled garden most of which is a citrus orchard. This is reached from the dining terrace and is suitable for children as it is completely enclosed. The rear terrace itself has a large white table with seating for 8 people, a large electric barbeque and a small sink with running water. At the front of the property is a sun terrace over- looking the sea. This abuts onto a lovely garden terrace owned by a neighbour who can often be seen pruning and clipping her vines and plants. Last summer, when her kittens were small, they spent a lot of time stalking a small green praying mantis which hissed at them from the plant pots!

Coast/Beach
A few metres from the house is the local beach. 4km away is Lovrecina beach (a sandy beach) and in Bol you find the small local beach, the secluded Monastery beach and the famous Golden Horn, a peninsula of fine shale that emerges from the pinewoods. There are many other small beaches as you drive around the island.

Special interest holidays
Bol, within easy reach by car, provides a myriad of water sports including windsurfing, diving, snorkelling, jet skiing, water skiing, boating, swimming and banana boating (at Zlatni Rat...the Golden Horn, Croatia's most famous beach). The sea in Croatia is crystalline, and people say it is like the Mediterranean was 40 years ago.

Travel
Local airport is Brac Airport. From here you can take a spin around the island in a Cesna. Main airport is Split Airport. accessible via a 15 minute drive to Supetar, a 1 hour ferry trip to Split Harbour and a 20-25 minute taxi to the Airport. The new 2007 dual-carriageway should reduce this time considerably.
Car hire is recommended but not essential as there are buses buzzing around the island all the time from the main depot in Supetar (just a few minutes from the ferry docking point).

Distances
Distances are not large on Brac. Splitska, a very pretty waterside village, is a few minutes away by road. Supetar, the pretty ferry port, is 15 minutes drive away. Sutivan, a busy little fishing village is approx. 6 km on the other side of Supetar. Milna, a fine waterside town, is is only a 45 minute drive away, as is Bol, on the other side of the island. Here you find the famous Golden Horn beach.

Further details
The house is in the centre of the village so the open-air market, bakery, supermarket, post office, bank and fish market are all nearby; A short distance around the harbour, the local hotel has a lovely swimming pool and sun decks where you can relax whilst sipping cool drinks and enjoying their buffet and solarium. There are small restaurants, bars and a pizza house around the harbourside.

Booking notes
E-mail the owner for availability: If available, a booking form and conditions will be e-mailed. Once signed, an invoice will be sent and, on payment of 30% of the total amount (if more than 50 days prior to the holiday) the booking will be confirmed. Full payment is due if booking is made less than 50 days from the start of the holiday. A £250 returnable security deposit is due on payment of balance.
