Villa Elsa can be rented as a whole or as separate apartments. It is about 2 hours drive north from Dubrovnik Airport, on the Peljesac Peninsula, in a quiet hamlet near the port of Orebic. The nearby family beach is sandy with very safe swimming in the wonderfully clean clear Adriatic water. Ferries go frequently to the island of Korcula, known for its vinyards and beautiful Venetian walled town. 2 miles along the unspoilt coast of the Peninsula is Viganj, the windsurfing centre of Croatia and you can hire equipment for this and other water sports. Numerous cafe-bars and restaurants with supermarkets and all amenities, a 5 minute drive. Set in private garden with off road parking, and very good views particularly from the top terrace. There are BBQ facilities and each apartment is well furnished with all facilities. Both ground floor apartments have own main doors, also French door access to shared terrace and to garden. The villa is newly painted externally and was recently renovated.

Notes on accommodation
The first floor apartment has an air-conditioning unit in the hall which can be switched to heating mode in cooler months. The bedrooms in all apartments also have either free-standing or table fans. All bedlinen and towels (but not beach towels) provided. All apartments are suitable for children, although the first floor apartment is approached by stone steps so a toddler would need watching on the top terrace.
Accessibility
The apartments have not been specifically adapted for wheelchair users but the entrances to the two ground floor apartments are only one step up from the ground. The first floor apartment would not be suitable due to the stairs.
Outside
The garden offers a large play space for children and the main gates can be closed. The villa is at the end of a very quiet road in a cul-de-sac. There are pine trees in the garden which afford shade, with an olive orchard at the bottom of the garden (belongs to someone else). There are rosemary bushes and other flowering shrubs. Washing can be hung in the garden. The patios are stone paved, the lower one being shared by the two ground floor apartments and shaded by the top terrace. Umbrella shades are provided for the first floor apartment. There is an outside table and chairs for each apartment, with barbecue facilities. Apartment 2 has its own exit to the garden from the terrace. Guests in Apartment 1 can also use these steps down to the garden if they wish.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is mainly sandy with very safe swimming, ideal for families with small children. This is a 15 minute walk from the villa (20 mins back, as gentle slope). The drive is only 5 minutes each way and there is parking directly above the beach or across the road. There are several cafe/bars and restaurants on the promenade nearby and you can stroll 15-20 minutes along this beautiful old stone promenade into Orebic, for further amenities, tourist office, post office, ferries etc.
Golf
The coastal terrain of Croatia does not lend itself to golf courses.
Travel
Dubrovnik Airport approx 2 hours drive north to Orebic. Split Airport 4-5 hours drive south to Orebic.
Recommend Holiday Autos car hire. There is a daily ferry and bus service from Dubrovnik to Korcula/Orebic but this leaves early in the morning - most flight times would require an overnight stay, but this is an excellent opportunity to view the ancient city of Dubrovnik first.
Distances
The small port of Orebic is only 5 minutes drive from the villa or a 15 - 20 minute walk to the town centre. This port is famous for its beautiful old stone seafront villas, built by wealthy retired sea captains in the C19. There are many other lovely villas further along the coast as the water here is so ideal for swimming and boating.
West of Orebic, there are several coastal villages, with Viganj being famous for its wind and kite surfing - several centres give lessons or loan equipment.
Further details
The nearest, largest supermarket is 5 minutes drive/10-15 minutes walk, from the villa. There is a bakery inside - Croatian bread is very good and fruit and vegetables are sold as well as all foodstuffs, household items and even clothes. There is a garage on the right just before you approach Orebic and the turning for the villa (marked Villa Meridiana and Stankovic).
In Orebic itself can be found a good Health Centre; English is spoken and also a dental surgery included (highly recommended by previous guests). The pharmacy is nearby. There are several banks (UK debit cards can be used to withdraw cash, Kuna, from machines). There are further supermarkets, various small shops, internet cafes, bars and restaurants. A small market takes place most days in the town centre, selling wonderfully fresh fruit and vegetables. The tourist office and the post office are on the promenade.
From the harbour, both passenger and car ferries leave regularly for Korcula. If visiting the town itself, go by passenger ferry -it is easy to spend a whole day exploring the many passages and stone stairways of this Venetian walled city, described as a 'mini-Dubrovnik', visiting the Cathedral, museums and art galleries or the intriguing small boutiques and traditional jewellery shops.
Alternatively, take the car and visit Lumbarda, one of the sandiest beaches on the whole Croatian coast. The island is criss-crossed by small roads and there are many vinyards which produce fine local wines.
Back on the peninsula, where it joins the mainland, is the village of Ston, with its ancient stone wall fortification - second longest continuous wall in the world - which can be seen climbing over the hill. This can be walked on for fantastic views over the roofs and across the sea salt 'pans' and to the mountains. Ston is also known for its excellent seafood restaurants.
There are many very good, reasonably priced restaurants all along the coast and fish is highly recommended.

Guest comments
'We had a wonderful time exploring this beautiful area, but also just lazing on the beach and swimming whenever we needed to cool off! We loved Korcula and we've thoroughly indulged ourselves in all the restaurants. Viganj was great for watching the wind surfing - next time we might get lessons. The apartment was very comfortable with everything that we needed.'
'We have all enjoyed our stay here very much. The coast of Croatia is lovely, with so many islands and wonderful views. The children wanted to spend every day on the beach but we managed to persuade them to visit some of the other attractions. The apartment was great and the beds very comfortable. It was very nice to eat on the terrace in the evening, watching the light fade over Korcula.'
'We've just had a fantastic couple of weeks, all of us, and it was really good to be able to rent the whole villa. Eating on the terrace was fab. Went swimming, diving and wind-surfing, ate out lots and had some great seafood.'
