Travel
The nearest airport to the island is Split. From the the airport bus meets all flights and stops at the ferry port. Boats leave 5-6 times a day in summer, 3 times a day all year round and take 2 hours. They land at Stari Grad, a bus meets every boat to the town centre, 2 min from the house. Alternatively, fast boats from Pescara, Italy direct to Stari Grad, once daily, summer only. Also Jadrolinja ships from Ancona (Italy) overnight, or Dubrovnik, a beautiful journey. Both 3 x weekly.

Distances
2 mins Stari Grad. 10 mins car or bus to Hvar town, ancient mini Dubrovnik with fantastic restaurants and St Tropez feel. Buses to Jelsa, lovely small town with great swimming and Vrboska, a mini Venice, with Yatch marina. Mountain villages can be reached by bus, as can further flung parts of the island, or by tours. From Hvar there are boats to small offshore islands and Vis, with its blue cave.

Further details
All foods and essentials available 7 days a week within 5 mins. A bank with ATM, a chemist, doctor, all in town, within 5 mins. In summer there are concerts, an amazing Easter procession, in Jelsa a new year firework display, and lots of local life all around. Spontaneous singing happens in cafes at unexpected times.

In Jelsa there is a nightclub, Stari Grad is quieter, with atmospheric bars. Of note is Bar Caribe, with its amazing CD collection and Antika with its cocktails and local specialities. Local chaps play football on the local pitch and local bands perform in the bars sometimes.

Most people speak English and you can always find someone to help.
