The house is an old Istrian stone house situated in the small fishing village of Funtana near Porec. Located right in the centre of the old part of the village, the house was sympathetically renovated in 2004 with the addition of a first floor terrace and the conversion of the attic space to a second bedroom with a roof terrace providing stunning views. Air-conditioning was added throughout the house in 2010. The house is fully furnished and well equipped. The village has a couple of mini-markets for basic groceries, a daily fresh produce market, restaurants, cashpoint, Post Office and its own Tourist Office.

Notes on accommodation
The house has exposed stone walls and beams on every floor with tiled flooring on the ground-level, which comprises an open-plan kitchen plus living/dining area. A small patio outside provides the perfect location for a leisurely breakfast or alfresco lunch/dinner. Upstairs you will find a spacious twin bedroom (which can also serve as a double) with parquet flooring, wardrobe, desk and desk chair and chest of drawers, leading to a terrace with views down onto the village. The second floor houses the double bedroom (also with parquet flooring), with wardrobe and chest of drawers and larger terrace with views to the marina and out to sea as well as providing a marvellous panoramic view to distant hills and villages. On a clear day you can see the Italian Alps.
Accessibility
Unfortunately the property is not suitable for wheelchair access.
Outside
There is a patio with outdoor table and chairs and use of a BBQ, a first floor terrace and a roof terrace with great views over the village marina.
Coast/Beach
The house is about a 500m walk to the nearest public beach. There is plenty of tree shade and the beach is paved with a cordoned-off swimming area (note the beach is not sandy; this is typical of the Istrian coastline). There are freshwater showers and nearby cafes selling drinks and snacks. The water is warm enough for swimming from the beginning of May through to mid-October. The waters of the Adriatic are particularly clean and clear.
Golf
The nearest golf course is 5kms away at the Zelena Laguna tourist complex just outside Porec.
Travel
Istria is easily accessible by air with cheap flights provided by Ryanair and Easyjet and, more recently, Jet2. Ryanair and Jet2 fly to Pula (ca. 45 mins drive away), Ryanair also flies to Trieste and Rijeka (both airports ca. 2 hours’ drive away) and Easyjet to Ljubljiana in Slovenia (ca. 2 hours’ drive away). There are frequent local buses (every hour in season), although a car would be useful for making trips further afield.
Distances
It is about 7km to Porec (famous for its Euphrasian Basilica) from the house and about 30km to Rovinj. From either of these towns it is about a 2.5 hour catamaran trip to Venice (offered daily during the summer season). The picturesque hill towns of Motovun and Groznjan are about 40km away.
Further details
There is a small mini-market selling groceries immediately behind the house and a daily market selling fruit/veg, bread and fish. There are a number of good quality restaurants in the village, a couple of cafe-bars, an ice-cream parlour and local wine-sellers. We have provided a lot more information about local amenities in the house and the Tourist Office in the village is also a good point of reference - they speak fluent English.
Booking notes
20% non-refundable deposit is required immediately to secure the booking. The balance is payable six weeks prior to arrival.

Owner profile
About the owner
I am 49 and live in London with my wife and two cats! We first came to Croatia in 2002 and in 2004 purchased the house in Funtana, where we have been holidaying each year ever since!
We find our holidays in Funtana are always extremely relaxing, spending the days reading and swimming at the local beach, cycling or walking in the vicinity or taking short drives to visit neighbouring towns and villages. Funtana boasts a number of extremely good restaurants, all within easy walking distance of the house, although we also enjoy buying local produce from the nearby markets in Porec and enjoying an alfresco meal on the patio. In the summer months, the Tourist Office organises a number of events in the village, including weekly concerts and monthly fisherman's festivals ... not to be missed!
Year purchased: 2004
