Holiday cottage in Viganj, Peljesac Peninsula, Dalmation Coast
250 year old Stone Cottage with Stunning Sea Views
Peaceful Hillside Location
Sleeps 4/6 (2 Bedrooms)

Owl Cottage is situated in the tranquil hillside hamlet of Habici, near Viganj. It affords stunning elevated views of the sea, mountains, islands, distant Korcula old town, local villages and passing boats. On a clear night the sky is a wonder to behold, and your only neighbours are the local wildlife (owls, coyotes, grasshoppers etc). This historic property is ideally suited to those seeking absolute peace and quiet (writers, artists, thinkers etc). However, it is also well placed for morning swimming, windsurfing at hip Viganj, parading on Orebic seafront, visits to local wineries, hiking up Mt Ilija, and day trips to places such as (Venetian-era) Korcula, Ston, Dubrovnik, Split and Mostar. Owl Cottage was renovated to a high specification in 2006 (3 levels, open plan, spiral staircase, exposed stone, open fireplace). Note that the property is reached after a 250 metre walk uphill from the road. If you aren't fit when you arrive, you will be when you leave Owl Cottage!

Notes on accommodation
Air-conditioning units provided on all three floors (can be used to cool rooms in summer or heat rooms in winter). Our 4 and 5 year-old children adore the property but please note (1) the 250m walk uphill to the property, and (2) the property has a spiral staircase.
Outside
Paved terrace with basic patio furniture and stunning sea, mountain, island and village views. Breathtaking view of the Milky Way and the night sky on a clear day. Occasional visits from a local owl, foxes and a variety of other creatures. Tranquility sometimes disturbed by the tinkling of bells on 4 goats belonging to a local farmer!
Coast/Beach
Owl Cottage is several hundred metres away from the many pebble beaches of Viganj town, with its renowned windsurfing facilities and laid-back, undiscovered charm. The clear Adriatic seas are great for young children and adults alike (but buy or bring swimming footwear). Snorkelling reveals an active underwater marine life.
Travel
Dubrovnik airport is a delightful 2 hour car journey away (perhaps break the journey with a cappuccino in Ston). Car hire from the airport is recommended. Ferries from Italy and elsewhere in Croatia arrive to nearby Korcula Island. Orebic ferry port (regular car and passenger ferries to Korcula) is about 8km away.
Distances
Less than 1km to Viganj, 3km to Kuciste and 7km to Orebic (beaches, hotels, restaurants, bank, supermarkets etc). Day trips recommended to Korcula Island (20 mins from Orebic), many local villages and wineries, Mljet Island, Ston, Dubrovnik, Split and Mostar (Bosnia).
Further details
Please note that one's choice of restaurants etc is severely reduced 'off season', but that June and September can be superb times to visit the region (crowds gone, weather often great, most places still open). Our favourite family restaurants are Forte in Viganj (excellent quality, imaginative & ever-changing menu), Ponta in Viganj (mammoth salads) and Villa Vrgorac (5km away in Perna). Small supermarket in Viganj, several larger stores in Orebic. Matusko Dingac & Roso Postup wines highly recommended - buy direct from winery.
