This charming and tastefully decorated small house is built of traditional stone and is located on a traffic-free street just a few steps away from the main square. It can be rented as a full house, in which case an outdoor terrace is provided, or each apartment can be rented separately. Shops, restaurants, cafes and bars are all within easy reach, as is the beautiful waterfront. The waterfront gives access to varied beaches on the offshore islands of the archipelago by water taxi. There are also ample swimming opportunities within a few minutes walk from the town centre. There is easy access by bus or taxi from the port of Starigrad and there are also direct ferries and a catamaran service connecting Split to Hvar town. As well as beautiful beaches and cosmopolitan style, Hvar offers ample opportunities for such activities as scuba diving, cycling and walking.

Outside
For famililies or groups who rent the whole house, there is a stone-paved outdoor terrace with fantastic views over the old town and the castle.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beaches are 10 minutes walk. Other beaches, inclusing those on the off-shore islands can be reached by taxi-boat from the waterfront.
Travel
Easiest access is via Split airport. An airport bus provides access to Split harbour from which there is frequent ferry access to Starigrad (20 mins by bus or taxi from Hvar) or direct to Hvar (ferry or fast catamaran). Jadrolinja, the Croatian ferry line, also provides a coastal service linking Starigrad to Rijeka and Dubrovnik, as well as an international service linking Starigrad to Ancona. Car parking in Hvar is difficult during the summer, and a car is not needed.

About the owner
We are two UK academics who had been thinking for quite a long time about buying a property in the Mediterranean. We had to make a quick decision about whether to buy this house and have had no regrets at all. We love Hvar and use the house ourselves around four times a year.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We fell in love with Hvar when we came there on holiday. It's is an idyllic and charming small town, on an island which is worth visiting at any time of the year. We were extremely lucky to be able to purchase this unique old house.

While being some 400 years old and built in traditional style, the house has been very tastefully modernised. So it combines the charm of the old, with the convenience and comfort of the new.
