Located on Brittany’s rugged south coast, Concarneau holiday apartments are set in a town known for its proud fishing heritage. Today it is still the third largest fishing port in France, and is a perfect setting to visit to see the industry in action. The bonus is that Concarneau holiday cottages are minutes from suburb indoor fish market, which opens daily at six in the morning. It’s a great place to do your food shopping if you’re staying at self-catering accommodation in Concarneau. The town itself is also very picturesque, with a number of old streets lined with historic buildings. You can also learn a bit more about the fishing tradition here by visiting the museum in the old town.

The region around Concarneau holiday gites boasts some stunning coastal scenery, along with countless old seaside towns. Heading north you could visit the fishing port of Camaret, which is home to a couple of sites of historical interest. The first is the Vauban fortified tower, which dates back to the 1600s and is famous for its unusual orange tinge. The other is the Lagatjar Alignments, a prehistoric monument composed of 65 menhirs, or large standing rocks, alongside the seafront. Another picturesque town close to Concarneau farmhouses is Quimperle, which is known for its beautiful centre. Meanwhile if you’d like a day at the beach then Benodet, just a few kilometres away from holiday accommodation in Concarneau, is ideal and features a long sandy beach.

Weather

At holiday accommodation in Brittany you’ll most likely experience warm, sunny weather in the summer months, while winters tend to be quite mild thanks to the influence of the Atlantic Ocean.

Best Time to Visit

August is a good time to head for Concarneau villas, as this is when the Festival of the Blue Nets takes place. This event is a celebration of the town’s fishing and Celtic heritage.

Reaching Concarneau

Concarneau self-catering gites, cottages and villas are about an hour from Brest Airport (BES), which is served by a handful of budget airlines.
