Marseille is only 30 minutes away by car and boasts a lovely old port, in which there’s still an important fishing industry. You could also come here from an apartment in Cassis to see the old Roman docks, with remnants dating as far back as Phoenician times. Elsewhere Aix en Provence is a great place to soak up a traditionally Pronvencal atmosphere, in a lovely old town known for its picturesque fountains and 17th Century architecture. The best day to come here from a Cassis self-catering holiday rental would be Saturday, when the town hosts its largest weekly market.
