Owner profile
About the owner
Born and raised in Barbados at Bakers Plantation, as a child, Sue Moss used to play in the storage barn that is now her island retreat. Situated on a ridge looking West onto the crystal waters of the Caribbean sea the house is nestled between two trees she and her siblings climbed during their school holidays. The design of the house focused on taking advantage of the amazing panoramic view and how best to utilise the natural breezes so welcomed from the East. The open plan design affords alfresco living the likes of which is difficult to replicate in the UK or many places the world over. All bedrooms having an ensuite affords all important privacy. Although she now resides in the UK, Sue and her family and friends spend as much time as possible in Barbados at their home from home.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Without doubt the incredible view was a massive Wow factor in the decision to build The Old Sugar House. The house almost ended up being called 'Wow' due to everyone's reaction when visiting the site. The house sits on arguably one of the best locations on the West Coast, just above Mullins. The cooling trade winds make this a preferred venue to the humidity, sand and lack of privacy on the beach. It is off the beaten track yet close to all the desirable hotspots on the West Coast. All our guests, whatever age, regard this as a massive plus.
Unique benefits of the property
The Old Sugar House overlooks rolling sugar plantation fields onto the blue Caribbean sea and it is this incredible vista that sets it apart from many other properties offering similiar accommodation. The unique open plan design immediately connects guests with the tranquility of its location. Although off the beaten track, the close proximity to Mullins Beach and the convenient facilities in nearby Speightstown and Holetown mean one does not have to spend too long travelling to a bank, supermarket, drugstore, bar/restaurant. Many Celebrities frequently stay and the house has been the venue for their special occasions. The house is often used for weddings and has been featured in Hello Magazine.
