The views from bed, the living area and the porch are all wonderful. The house partly sits under an old mango tree which offers additional welcome shade when the sun is strong, and is also surrounded by gardens newly planted with shrubs and small trees.
Children of all ages are welcome.
Outside
As you stroll around the gardens, enjoy the landscape of grassy banks, fragrant shrubs, exotic flowers, and towering trees: our gardens are extensive. This forms the immediate environment for Birdsong, from which to view the abundant bird and sea life. Aside from the lodge's private viewing deck, there is another more centrally placed for socialising or just sitting. Barbecues are easily set up here. We have a number of fruiting trees, the fruits of which are available to our guests according to the season: mangoes, papaya, banana, limes, lemons, plantain, with avocado trees soon to reach maturity.
Fresh fish is available on a daily basis from the fishermen on the beach.
Coast/Beach
It is a 4 minute walk to the half mile long sandy beach of Castara Bay, which is on the gentler Caribbean Ocean side (West) of the island. This gently sloping bay is perfect for swimming and sunbathing, and is provided with lifeguards for added safety. The neighbouring Little Bay (6 minute walk from main bay) is a wonderful area for snorkelling to view coral and the related fish.
Englishman's Bay is a 7 minute drive.
Special interest holidays
Castara Retreats and Castara is ideally situated for clients who are interested in bird watching, swimming, snorkelling and diving, rainforest guided walks and fishing. Over 50 varieties of birds have been seen without leaving our property, and the snorkelling off the Little Bay can be equalled but not bettered. Rainforest walks with experienced guides can be easily arranged as well as boat trips.

Crown Point airport in the south of the island is 55 minutes by car. Car hire can be arranged once in Castara, but it is very easy just to stay in Castara for the whole time of your stay.
