Changeover day
Guests may arrive and depart on any day of the week - availability allowing. Arrival may be anytime from 4pm onwards, and we only ask you to vacate the apartment by 11am if we have new guests arriving that same afternoon!

#4 Art Studios (Sleeps 2/3)

This is a studio apartment - and therefore open plan. It is spacious, with a separate bathroom of course, and a large balcony. Beds can made up as either 2 singles, or one 6ft double. Mattresses are firm. The bathroom has a large fully tiled walk-in shower. The well equipped kitchen has everything you could possibly need: kettle, toaster, microwave, cooker, blender, cafetiere, fridge-freezer and all utensils. The kitchen equipment is modern and regularly replaced whenever necessary. We also provide a hairdryer and iron. There is a television and stereo radio/cd player. There is a breakfast bar and stools, comfortable chairs, and a dining table and chairs on the balcony. Uk 3 pin socket in the apartment as well! Apartment #4 is on the first floor.

There is a breakfast bar and stools, comfortable chairs, and a dining table and chairs on the terrace. Uk 3 pin socket in the apartment as well! Apartment #6 is on the ground floor.

Notes on accommodation
Arrangements can be made with a member of staff to have good, home-cooked Bajan food delivered to your dining table, if you wish to eat at home but do not wish to cook for yourself! So you have the best of all worlds! Although the apartments do not have a swimming pool, there are smart hotels either side that are more than happy for you to use their pools and facilities! The studios face inland so they gain maximum benefit from the cooling breezes blowing over the island. The gardens are immaculately kept & you will enjoy a beautiful array of tropical plants that you usually only see in greenhouses! The Bougainvillea is a riot of colour & the Frangipani flowers are small but highly scented. There are coconut palms, banana & grapefruit trees. It is a very sociable place to stay, & we have met many people from all over the world – after sunset people tend to gather under the canopy in the garden & enjoy a drink together, whilst exchanging tips on good restaurants or excursions!

Outside
The gardens are private and beautifully looked after by Harry - the gardener and handy-man.
There is a barbecue for guests use.
There are plenty of loungers in the garden so that you can either soak up the sun, or sit quietly in the shade!

Coast/Beach
Coconut palms, Casuarina and Machineel trees fringe the beach at Discovery Bay, where our apartment is situated. You can sit quietly and soak up sun on a beach chair, or indulge in a variety of water sports - all of which are available from 'beach vendors' or bookable at The Sandpiper sports bar. There are buoyed off areas so you can swim and snorkel safely without fear of being run down by over-enthusiastic jet skiers! Overall the bay is peaceful and offers something for everyone!

Golf
Several world renowned golf courses are within easy reach of the apartment.

Travel
The only airport on Barbados is Grantley Adams International (BGI). This is about a 40 minute drive from the apartment.
It is not necessary to hire a car as the public transport system is excellent. However it is always fun to hire a car for a couple of days to allow yourself a glimpse of the East and North coasts which are spectacularly different from the West! We suggest a small jeep or moke, as they are less expensive and more fun to drive than a standard car!

Distances
The whole island is only 21 x 14 miles, so nowhere is very far away! All shops, banks, bars and restaurants are within leisurely walking distance.
The capital, Bridgetown, is a bus ride away. It is bustling, busy and noisy - apparently the most densely populated area of the Caribbean. But a great place to shop and browse.

Further details
EATING AND DRINKING - There are numerous places to eat to suit all tastes and budgets – all within easy reach of the apartment. For up-market dining we can highly recommend The Starfish - just a few minutes walk away. The Fish Pot at Little Good Harbour and La Mer at Port St Charles are both north of Speightstown, but well worth the 15-minute drive. The Sunday brunch at La Mer is probably some of the best dining on the island – buffet priced at $125 bds each. Sample an excellent lunch from a street vendor, where the food is truly Bajan and freshly cooked - what more could you want? Chefette and Pizzaz are the Barbados versions of fast food restaurants - fresh barbecued chicken and enormous pizzas are available at these establishments. For well-priced, good fresh food, served by friendly, relaxed staff, visit Cocomos – a 5-minute walk away in Holetown. We are regular visitors here and the bar staff are fabulous too – ask Dave to make you a cocktail – say Mike and Mary sent you! Happy Hour 4.30 - 6pm!

OUTINGS AND EXCURSIONS - So many places to visit and so much to do, and so little time! But don't hurry! Although you don't need to hire a car as the public transport system is excellent, it is fun to hire a moke or jeep for a couple of days so that you can drive around at your leisure, and discover parts of the island that other tourists may not reach! You should drive over to the east coast - it is rugged and beautiful - visit Morgan Lewis Beach and Bathsheba, having driven over Cherry Tree Hill, from where the views are truly stunning. We also suggest that you treat yourself to a catamaran cruise along the west coast - swimming with turtles, and sampling wonderful food and rum punch whilst on board - the island looks so different when seen from the ocean. A lunchtime tour of the Mount Gay Rum distillery is also an excellent good value outing! If you don't want to hire a car, a Jeep Safari is a very good way of seeing most aspects of the island in a day.

A 20% deposit is required on booking the holiday, and the balance required 8 weeks prior to departure.

I wanted to say what a fantastic time we had - the apartment was perfect - how glorious to be so close to the beach.

Just to let you know what a wonderful time we had at Art Studios. We enjoyed the sunsets with other residents, and all agreed that No 4 is the best apartment to stay in! We did the Races, Parliament, Holders Hill Theatre, fish fry at Oistins, dined at La Mer, Lone Star and Flindt. Also enjoyed Cocomos very much.

Congratulations - beautiful apartment - the 4th time we have stayed at Art Studios. We had a wonderful time and are sorry to be going home - when we return we will definitely be staying here.

Well done for also decorating Apt #6 so beautifully - so bright and cheerful!
