Location is everything – 25 yards from the beach so you can be in the sea in a matter of seconds & bobbing about in the Caribbean! Or you can sunbathe in the garden amongst the beautiful tropical shrubs & flowers – the humming birds and green monkeys won’t bother you. Our apartments are located just 500 yards north of Holetown, on the Platinum coast of Barbados - so called because of the beautiful white coral sand. We are situated between Discovery Bay Hotel & The Sandpiper, two well-known hotels on the West coast.
You are a short stroll from top class restaurants & a wide selection of different bars. There are several banks & boutiques as well as duty free shopping in the vicinity.
Many sporting facilities are nearby - golf, tennis & water sports, but despite all this fun the area is relaxed, laid back & peaceful! Getting about the Island without a car is easy, as the buses stop at the end of the road. Everything you could possibly need is within walking distance!

Notes on prices
Prices shown are for the property(s) per week in UK Pounds. There is an additional charge of £75 per week for a third person staying in the apartment. No additional charge for a child under 2 years. Divide weekly rate by 7 to obtain nightly rate!
Changeover day
Guests may arrive / depart on any day of the week & at any time - availability allowing. At busy times there may need to be some flexibility to allow for guest departures & arrivals – but please ask, as everything is possible! Airport transfers arranged.
Notes on accommodation
Three members of staff work at the apartments - Audrey, Helena & Harry.
Audrey or Helena will visit everyday to clean, & chat about life on the Island if you wish! Bed linen changed twice weekly and towels 3 times.
Arrangements can be made with Harry to have good, home-cooked Bajan food delivered to your dining table, if you wish to eat at home but don’t wish to cook for yourself! The best of both worlds!
Although the apartments do not have a swimming pool, there are smart hotels either side that are happy for you to use their pools & facilities – in exchange for buying lunch or a few drinks.
The studios face inland to gain maximum benefit from the cooling breezes blowing over the island, but also have ceiling fans to keep you comfortable.
It is a very sociable place to stay, & we have met many people from all over the world. At sunset people tend to gather under the canopy in the garden & enjoy a drink together, whilst exchanging tips on good restaurants or excursions.
Outside
The gardens are beautifully looked after by Harry.
You will enjoy a beautiful array of tropical plants that you usually only see in greenhouses! Bougainvillea is a riot of colour & Frangipani flowers are small but highly scented. There are coconut palms, banana, papaya & grapefruit trees.
BBQ in the garden for al fresco dining!
Enjoy watching the mongoose play around the gardens - they look a little like 'stretched' squirrels! They aren't vermin, but keep the 'creepy crawlies' at bay, so we welcome them.
There is also a large land crab that has made its home by the laundry room.
A family of Green Monkeys live in the vicinity as well, and these will often be seen, particularly from Apartment 6.
At the weekends you may wake to the sounds of the locals enthusiastically playing cricket or football across the other side of the road! Feel free to watch - and spend some leisurely time in the shade.
On Sundays there are coconut vendors at the end of the lane - do try coconut water!
Coast/Beach
Coconut palms, Casuarina and Manchineel trees fringe the beach at Discovery Bay, where our apartment is situated. You can sit under the trees or soak up the rays on the sand.
Indulge in a variety of water sports - all of which are available from 'beach vendors' or bookable at The Sandpiper sports bar.
There are buoyed off areas so you can swim and snorkel safely without fear of being run down by over-enthusiastic jet skiers! Overall the bay is peaceful and offers something for everyone!
Golf
Several world renowned golf courses are within easy reach of the apartment. However this can be an expensive pastime in Barbados, so only bother to bring your clubs if you have carefully researched green fees etc!
Travel
VirginAtlantic, BA and some charter airlines all fly direct from the UK to Grantley Adams International (BGI) in Barbados. The Airport is a 40-minute drive from the apartment. It is not necessary to hire a car as public transport system is excellent. However it is always fun to hire a car for at least a couple of days to allow yourself a glimpse of the East and North coasts, which are spectacularly different from the West! You may also arrange with us to use our car for all or some of your stay.
Distances
The Island is only 21x14 miles, so nowhere is very far away – allowing for road surface and getting lost! Many shops, banks, bars & restaurants are within leisurely walking distance. The capital Bridgetown, is 25 minutes by bus. It is bustling, busy & noisy, but a great place to browse, do duty-free shopping & watch the world go by. Swan Street is great fun - real shops for real people who live in Barbados - do take a stroll. More traditional Speightstown is a 10-minute drive North.
Further details
Do contact us for our information pack. Outings and excursions: So many places to visit & so much to do, and so little time - but don't hurry! Although you don't need to hire a car as the public transport system is excellent, it is fun to hire a moke or jeep for a couple of days so that you can drive around at your leisure, & discover parts of the island that other tourists may not reach! You should drive over to the East coast - it is rugged & beautiful - visit Morgan Lewis Beach and Bathsheba, having driven over Cherry Tree Hill, from where the views are truly stunning. We also suggest that you treat yourself to a 'Stiletto' catamaran cruise along the west coast - swimming with turtles, and sampling wonderful food and rum punch whilst on board - the island looks so different when seen from the ocean. A lunchtime tour of the Mount Gay Rum distillery is also an excellent good value outing! If you don't want to hire a car, a Jeep Safari is a very good way of seeing most aspects of the island in a day. There are numerous places to eat to suit all tastes & budgets, all within easy reach of the apartment. For up-market dining we highly recommend The Lone Star or Tides. The Fish Pot at Little Good Harbour is north of Speightstown, but well worth the 15-minute drive. There is a Rastafarian who parks at the bottom of our road from Tues thru to Saturday lunchtime - the food is truly Bajan & freshly cooked - what more could you want? Also try a lunch from Princess - lady & small white van parked behind SuperCentre at lunchtimes! Jus Grillin opened in 2008 & has proved to be a popular place to eat - fresh fish, chicken or steak all cooked to order for $30Bds. For well-priced, good food, served by friendly, relaxed staff, visit Zaccios (formerly Cocomos) – a 5-minute walk away in Holetown. We are regular visitors here and the bar staff are fabulous too. Ask Dave, Pearson or Trudi to make you a cocktail – say Mike and Mary sent you! Happy Hour 4.30 - 6pm.

Owner profile
About the owner
Mary & Michael first visited Barbados in 1982, & caught the bug! We stayed on the South coast in a studio apartment very similar to Art Studios. The island was still in it's infancy of tourism back then & we have seen many changes over the years. We returned regularly with friends & our children, who are now young adults & also like to stay at Art Studios with friends/boyfriends/girlfriends. We purchased our first property at Art Studios in 2002 and another in 2004. We are lucky enough to be able to visit Barbados 2 or 3 times a year for 3 to 4 weeks at a time. This means that we are able to keep a close eye on the apartments and make sure that they are maintained and updated regularly, providing simple, clean, fresh & affordable accommodation. We hope you enjoy Barbados as much as we do!
