As the home is waterfront, with direct and unrestricted access on to private dock and deep water, and with a pool within the garden, the home is not suitable for young infants or non-swimmers.

Outside
Beautiful lush tropical garden with a variety of different palm trees and flowering shrubs, oleander, hibiscus, bougainvillea, and flowering vines over part of the deck. Planted to attract the humming birds. Private kidney shaped pool (approx 20' x 12'), not heated (but hot May-Sept!). In season, pick your own bananas and coconuts! Sun loungers, chairs, 3 x picnic tables and benches. Sitting rail along the deck. Hammock. BBQ. Pool and outside areas are all well lit at night.
Coast/Beach
Rum Runners is a waterfront home with private dock, overlooking a private marina, with direct access to the Sea of Abaco. There are beaches nearby and in walking distance, including Mermaid Beach and Mermaid Reef.
Abaco is best enjoyed by exploring the many beaches on the mainland (car hire suggested), and by visiting the surrounding cays, ideally by a rental boat (which you can moor on the dock) which is highly recommended.
Golf
Nearest golf at Treasure Cay, 30 minutes by car.
Travel
Marsh Harbour airport (MHH) (local and international) is 5-10 minutes by taxi. International flights via Nassau (NAS), Miami (MIA), Ft Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.
British Airways fly direct to Nassau, then Bahamas Air to Marsh Harbour (30 min flight). BA, Virgin, American and others fly to Miami, then American Eagle (or Bahamas Air via Nassau) to Marsh Harbour.
10 mins walk to ferries to outlying cays.
Distances
Marsh Harbour town (shops, restaurants, banks, etc) 10 mins walk.
Treasure Cay (village, world renowned beach, restaurants, golf course) 30 mins by car.
Elbow cay and Hopetown 15 mins ferry or rental boat.
Guana cay 25 mins ferry (Nippers Sunday hog roast is a must).
Further details
Abaco is a paradise for boaters, keen waterrsports enthusiasts (swimming, snorkeling, Scuba diving), fisherman (blue water fishing on the ocean for Marlin, Tuna, Wahoo, fly fishing in the flats for bonefish, reef fishing for Grouper and Snapper) and anyone seeking peace and total relaxation with a choice of deserted beaches.
Local rental boat hire is highly recommended for part, if not all, of your stay. The outlying cays and their beaches are truly stunning, with powder white sand and crystal clear seas. With a rental boat it is not unusual to have an entire beach or small cay to yourself! As you explore the many cays, expect to encounter wild dolphin. There are many reliable boat hire companies with good fleets, but you need to book early, we can provide details. Rental boats are provided with floatation devices, VHF radio, torch, and chart. We have a shore-based VHF in the house, to keep in touch. Car hire useful (recommended if no boat).
There is a good choice of restaurants in Marsh Harbour and on the surrounding cays; the emphasis is on fresh fish and seafood (plenty of lobster!) rather than fine dining by European standards. Supermarkets and local stores are well stocked, but do not expect the choice of Tesco or Sainsbury!
Abaco is well suited to families with young children, couples seeking romantic time together, and more mature or retired visitors. If you are looking for nightclubs, casinos, crowded beaches Abaco is NOT for you!
Booking notes
50% deposit at time of booking. Balance payable 30 days before arrival. Payment by bank draft, wire transfer, or UK cheque. A security bond of US$400 is payable locally to our key holder in the Bahamas on arrival and refunded on leaving the property provided no damage has occurred. 50% booking deposit is refundable if you cancel up to eight weeks prior to arrival date, after that only if we are successful in re-letting the home.
