Bajan style building, tucked just a few metres up in Lanes Road. Lets walk along the road to the left of the property. 50m there is a Thurs/Fri/Sat bbq stall selling delicious takaway food for about B$20 a meal. A few metres further in MR. VICKS (happy hour, half price cocktails wine and beer 5.30 - 7p.m - you must go here!). On the right is the bus stop beach side, B$2 any journey - yellow buses loud reggae and they all think they are in the Grand Prix. Next Chinese bar/rest, really cheap, local colour - sometimes loud. Then Kudos, bar/rest, latino and kareoke evenings. Wonderful Daphnes beachside international restaurant, very special, not cheap but sooooper. Further left is Scarletts - va va voooooom. Go right along the road Sandy Lane! haunt of the rich and famous (you can walk along the beach to celebrity spot). Just 15 mins walk to Holetown about 6 pm. Check the Beach House on the way for an emergency cocktail. Taxi from airport takes about half an hour.

Bookings are flexible. Guests should leave by 12 noon on day of departure.

Notes on accommodation
The accommodation is partially air conditioned and very comfortable. Very suitable for children and mixed parties, the outside entrance terraces have gates to stop the children wandering! Linen and towels provided (take your own beach towels though).
Accessibility
The lower apartment is suitable for a wheelchair user.
Outside
There is a tiny garden at the back of the property but the front terraces are usually the place for socialising and relaxing after a day on the beach or exploring the island.
Coast/Beach
Entrance to the beach to the left by St. James, chair rental and parasols available - jet skis for the sporty and glass bottomed boats for the more genteel (who can't swim - me!) Turtles have decided to live in the bay and particularly like Sundance visitors who take their own snorkeling equipment and a bit of bread and fish to tempt them with!
Golf
There are two amazing golf courses close by, Royal Westmorland and Sandy Lane (Sandy Lane Hotel is the next bay round to Paynes Bay).

Travel
The trip from the airport will take about half an hour in a taxi or if you are driving a hired car. Warning to Canadians and US guests to get their head round roundabouts! This is little England!
Distances
Holetown is the nearest town - a 5 minute bus ride (well sometimes quicker in a yellow bus!) for supermarket and tourist purchases. Groceries can be picked up from the Texaco shop a minutes walk away. The other direction is Bridgetown, about 20 minutes on the bus. The North and East of the island is very different and a lovely trip out, there are many places of interest ranging from old plantation houses to Orchid Forests and Harrisons Cave - safaris and water sports and catamaran trips also.

Pricing as follows: - 1/2 people in main bedroom ($110 nightly/$770 weekly).
3/4 guests, main bedroom + double ($185 per night/$1295 weekly).
5/6 people - main bedroom + double + double ($225 nightly/1575 weekl).
7/8 people, four bedrooms (lst floor apartment only) - master,double, double, twin bunks. ($265 nightly/$1855 weekly)
20% deposit will secure the booking. Balance 6 weeks before holiday starts.
Should door keys be lost US$150 - due to change locks and keys.

About the owner
First visited Barbados in 1999, and just loved the relaxed island and the friendly locals with their great sense of humour.
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
I rented the property before buying it in 2003. If needed lots of tlc, and its now a comfortable home from home. The area of Paynes Bay is delightful with its mix of local folk and holiday makers, the beach is one of the best on the island, fringed by palm trees, and there are two or three little bars and a couple of amazing restaurants within a couple of minutes stroll. Holetown is a 15 minute walk away, a 5 minute state bus ride (or a 3 second ride in a yellow bus!) with lots of shops and restaurants to choose from.
Unique benefits of the property
If you are looking for a relaxed beach holiday in a super area, real Barbados - this is for you. If you want to explore the island, Paynes Bay is a good launching pad for a car trip or guided tour or a good ol' bus ride. There are several hotel pick up points close by so trips on island safari, catamarans and such, are easy to arrange. The apartments are unusually spacious. Lovely for just a romantic couple or fine for a big party to spread out comfortably. Safe for families with children and convenient with the beach just across the road and the wonderful warm Caribbean - lazy days and wonderful sunsets.
