Sleeps 6 (3 Bedrooms)

|
Emcee has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen and dining area, living space with (satellite) TV, veranda, plunge pool and garden area. The interior is large and spacious, probably the most spacious villa in our class. The kitchen is well equipped with cooker, 19 cu.ft. fridge/freezer, microwave, washer dryer and the dining area seats 6. The property is air conditioned and fanned throughout. The Heywoods estate is situated opposite the Almond Beach and Port St. Charles resorts, on the north west coast of the island. The beach and local town are both within easy walking distance from the villa. Frequently running and very cheap public transport is accessed between the villa and the beach. A further luxury resort at "6 Mens" is currently being developed

Notes on prices
Recent energy price rises have forced us to rethink our pricing. This year we decided not to increase the villa cost but add a surcharge on electrical use over a rate of 25Kwhrs (Units) per day. The surcharge will be 22p per unit, which is the cost price on the island. 25 units per day is a generous limit and easily achieved if the air conditioning is not switched on 24hrs per day

Notes on accommodation
Firstly we will simplify your arrival in Barbados by greeting your party at the airport and delivering you to the villa, showing you many of the featured landmarks of Barbados along the way. The villa is situated in a quiet, residential street (cul-de-sac). The front of the property is gated and the pool rim is raised allowing for better safety for toddlers and small children. Baby sitting can be arranged through our management company. First aid and blackout candles are found in the cabinet above the fridge. A fire extinguisher and blanket are situated adjacent to the cooker. Two smoke detectors have been installed. For telephone & Internet, you can purchase a DIGICEL SIM card in Speightstown at a cost of $30.00 bjn and simply exchange your own mobile SIM.
Accessibility
The property is based on an old design which makes wheel chair access difficult.
Outside
The property is surrounded by pretty landscaped gardens. To the back of the villa is a secluded plunge pool with table, chairs, sun loungers and parasols.
Coast/Beach
Heywoods beach, on the west coast, is a 5-10 minute walk( I personally do it in 5 but I am also 6ft tall). All other beaches running along the coast can be accessed by public transport or private car. However there is limited parking at the most popular spots (Mullins) so we would recommend the bus. Water skiing is available on the beach. I've left Jeremy's business card in the kitchen. His boat is available for skiing and fishing also.
Golf
Sandy Lane and Royal Westmoreland are about 30 mins drive south.
Skiing
For water skiing, I always recomend my good friend , Jeremy Payne or his son Adrian, who lives just up the road. His number is on the pin board in the kitchen. He can also arrange fishing and coastal picknic/safarii trips.
Special interest holidays
My special interest is eating and drinking. And Barbados is a fantastic place to indulge those pleasures. But don't bother to pick up a glossy magazine which tells you about all those flashy restaurants where all the celebs go, because we supply our own "Rough Guide". And after 12 years of chewing and slurping my way down the west coast, I'm fairly sure I'm giving some good council.
Travel
Grantley Adams Airport: We will arrange your pickup and "meet & greet" at the same price as a standard taxi ride. Due to our proximity to the beach, town and local bus services, there is absolutely no need to hire a car. It does come in handy but not essential. We do recommend one company we have found who are by far the most reliable and cheap rental company and they will deliver to and pick up from, the door.
Distances
Speightstown: 6-8 mins walk. Holetown: 10-15 mins by car/bus. Bridgetown: 35-40 mins by car/bus. Bathsheba (East Coast) 30 mins car, 60 mins bus.
Further details
Speightstown contains a range of food markets, stores, banks, art galleries, bars and restaurants. Notably the "Fishermans" which is on the beach and is very reasonably priced. Scuba-diving can also be organised from "Reefs & Wreckers".
We supply you with a "Rough Guide" which is a result of our 12 year holiday affair with Barbados. Not only does it give you a great insight of the island, you can also save at least £50 per person. Even more if you don't bother with a hire car.
Booking notes
When booking, a 20% deposit will be required, with the final payment due 8 weeks prior to occupation. A refundable security payment of £300 will be required prior to occupation. This can be in cheque form which will not be cashed unless we find any damage. Don't worry about an odd broken plate. We would prefer that you be honest with us so we can fully service the next guests.
Guest comments
We have acted on a number of comments made by our guests. We have installed smoke detectors. We have installed privacy blinds in the master bedroom. We have bought a number of specialised pots & pans, a cool box, and a range of wine glasses. We repaired the "sqeeky" bed. We will always listen to our clients or potential clients.
House swap
It's possible. I'm open to offers.
Owner profile
About the owner
Kate is a Special needs teacher and I am an Engineering officer in the Merchant navy. My wife and I own Emcee, in Barbados and The Old Barn annex in Beckwithshaw, Harrogate. Both homes are very dear to us and guests have commented on how welcome they were made to feel in the home from home atmosphere in both properties. Indeed, we aim to offer our guests as much care as possible during their stays in warm and friendly environments. We have travelled quite a bit and stayed in many self-catering villas, both home and away and so have gleened from this what we all need during our breaks from reality. We hope you have an enjoyable and pleasant vacation wherever you decide to book. All the best. Andrew Scott.
Year purchased: 2008
Why the owner chose a home in this location
As I have said above, I work as a merchant seaman and know quite a bit about foreign shores. For me, Barbados has that mix of having familiar establishments yet having a different character. Barbados is very safe and the weather is 95% fantastic.
Unique benefits of the property
We firmly believe our property offers outstanding value for money. We meet you at the airport and take you to the villa where you are given a tour and made to feel most welcome. Our managers aim to help all guests during their stay and are on hand to solve any issues where possible. We enjoy hearing back from our guests and appreciate and take on board any comments they make which will allow other guests to enjoy their stay even more.
