These adjacent studio apartments directly overlook the sensational Jandia beach, facing south at the western end of a clean sandy coastline running north easterly for about 22km. Our private balconies get the sun all day. Activities abound, marine based and otherwise. There is good surf and the wind surfing world championships are held at Sotavento Playa, along this coastline. There are many shops, bars and restaurants close to the apartments and in the concourse below. Cash machines are also around. For eating in, there is a supermarket in the concourse beneath the apartments, together with a private medical clinic nearby. Shoppers: Fuerteventura is duty free! The climate is "desert"; summers are hot and dry; winters are warm with a little rain occasionally, a bit like a good English September. There is thus an all year round letting season and the rent for these apartments is the same, whatever climate or time you prefer.

Notes on accommodation
The apartments are are airy and bright, being on the top floor of the complex. The south facing balconies are not overlooked. A ceiling fan is provided. The accommodation is suitable for children over 5 years old. The apartments are easily accessed by lift. There is a communal pool and sunning area in the complex and a games room with occasional karaoke bar. Breakfast and dinner can be taken in the Palm Garden restaurant. There is a manned reception, like a hotel. There are massage chairs in the foyer! Optional interim cleans and linen (and towel) changes are available by prior arrangement at an additonal cost of 40€ per time, payable locally to the cleaner/supervisor.

Accessibility
There is wheelchair access to the apartments and throughout the complex, as well as in the concourse outside. The pavement outside is level with ramps beside all steps in the concourse cater for wheelchair users, buggies etc.
The route to the beach is surfaced and level, so even beach access is possible by wheelchair, subject to mobility on the beach sand itself. You can hire a car from the airport or locally to explore the whole island (4x4 recommended!)

Outside
Palm Garden is in a very central location and access on foot to all local amenities is easy. It has communal swimming and toddler pools with sun loungers and a restaurant by the pool. There is a bar and games room.
The lobby has internet access and public phones. At street level is a row of shops, cafes, and restaurants as choose from. The supermarket and medical centres are also very near.
The fishing village/port of Morro Jable is about 20 minutes' walk away. There is a harbour there and plenty of "non tourist" shops. The waterfront also boasts a lovely series of restaurants. Local food is fantastic! It has banks, post office and police station, plus big supermarket and laundrette.

Coast/Beach
The (start of the) beach is just a short 200m level walk from your apartment building. Loungers and sunshades can be hired at regular intervals along the beaches, where there are also occasional laid back beach bars, playing mostly Spanish music with a wide range of freshly prepared meals, ices and refreshments, alcoholic and otherwise, at fair prices. Their snacks are very enticing, including Gambas al Aquillo (sizzling prawns in garlic) and mejillones (mussels), which dwarf British mussels.

Golf
There are several golf courses on Fuerteventura and more in the making, including one in Jandia. Not being golfers ourselves, we cannot comment specifically but you would need to hire transport to reach a golf course, or some of them, if you want a choice of courses.

Skiing
Water skiing only!

Special interest holidays
The beach is ideal for all forms of surfing and there are surf, sailing and diving schools very near. Activities available include fishing, diving, sailing, tennis, golf, boat trips, visits to other islands by ferry, cycling, camel riding, mountain biking, trike biking, motocross biking, jet-ski, botanical gardens, animal park and walking. Fuerteventura has a spectacular volcanic landscape.

Travel
The road from the airport is modern. A taxi ride from the airport will cost about 100 Euros and take about 50 minutes, or you can take a number 10 bus, which is a cheap and comfortable ride. It stops directly opposite Palm Garden. You can hire a car, either at the airport or at your destination. If you want to explore the island you would probably do better to hire a car than to go on organised trips. Private transfers be arranged at the time of booking for less than the usual taxi fare.

Distances
Morro Jable is the nearest town. It takes about 20 minutes to walk to, along the road, beach or promenade. You can alternatively take a short taxi or bus ride to get there. It is a living village with good restaurants along the waterfront. It has banks, post office and police station, plus big (Spar) supermarket, laundry, and much more!

There are camel rides and a zoo/ botanic garden at La Lajita, about 16 miles away. You will pass through here on your way from the airport.

Further details
It would be wise to take out medical insurance as (private) treatment can prove expensive. Public medical facilites are not well developed on this part of the island, at least. There are some excellent restaurants, especially Coronata in Morro Jable and the Marabu at Esquinzo, a couple of miles down the coast, but more than worth the effort! You can reach Esquinzo via the local (blue and yellow) circular bus service, which also stops directly opposite Palm Garden, or walk the shore to get there.
The Oasis Bar beneath the apartments if good for music. La Sirena cafe is another favourite there. Try a Cocktail at the Kuhstall Bar in the adjoining Cosmo Centre or (more expensive) at the Treffpunkt, further down the strip.

All tenants are expected to treat the apartment and its contents with care and respect whilst in residence. Any accidental damage should be reported to the agent on the understanding that the tenant will reimburse the full cost of repairing or replacing any item so damaged.

The owners do not accept any liability for loss, injury or damage sustained or caused by anything in the apartment or other connected mishap howsoever occasioned.

Booking notes
Please restrict smoking to the balconies. The caretakers will have thoroughly cleaned the apartment before your arrival and made up the beds etc. There is no mid-stay clean or linen charge included in the rental. A non-refundable deposit of 150€/£100 is payable on booking, with the balance due 6 weeks before arrival.

Mid stay clean with towel and linen change (40€) and transfers to/from the airport can be arranged at the time of booking.

Owner profile

Rosie and Clifford Allison

About the owner
We are a UK resident married couple in late middle age with two apartments in the Palm Garden complex, Jandia, Fuerteventura. We bought them having visited the area and fallen in love with it as an ideal beach holiday destination. Bookings and management are now in the hands of a local agent. Contact details given will direct you to this agency. We are just too far away to manage the flats on a day-to-day basis.

Year purchased: 2005

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We have known and loved Fuerteventurs for about 15 years, especially the southern coast, with its seemingly endless shoreline, great food, cocktails and company and regularly use the apartments ourselves. They are partly funded on mortgage and partly from cashed-in ISAs, which we found rather boring by comparison and tending to underperform. The flats were something of an impulse buy in 2005 when the opportunity to acquire them came up whilst looking for a holiday place in the area. We already knew Palm Garden from previous stays, so did not hesitiate to take a more permanent foothold there.

Unique benefits of the property
We love the views from the flats and the privacy of the top floor. No stay there is too long and we always return home with regret, albeit refreshed after a real escape from the 'real world'. Esquinzo is a favourite haunt of ours, reached on the blue and yellow circular bus, stopping just opposite the apartments, with its Bohemian beach bar (Emilio y Klaus - Chiringo 8) and superb Marabu Restaurant, situated in what is barely a hamlet. The Monte Marina Hotel there also has a great clifftop restaurant. More locally, we like 'La Sirena' Cafe immediately below the flats. The Treffpunkt cocktails down 'the strip' and ALL the seafront restaurants in Morro Jable. The sea is clean and warm. the beach is mostly 'clothing optional', which may not be everyone's cup of tea, but does not offend us.
