Casa Hoopoe comprises a 3 bedroom villa with a separate apartment below. To sleep up to 6 people you can just rent the villa; if you would like to sleep 8, then rent the apartment as well.( apartment never let separately) There is a spacious terrace with a covered eating/relaxing area where you can enjoy a splash free drink, whilst watching over family and friends using the pool on the terrace below. There is also a walled garden, that we are developing to attract wildlife. We're keen divers and wildlife watchers so have provided information on the fantastic diving possibilities around Lanzarote, and binoculars to check out the birds around the villa and the boats on the ocean! There are lovely sea views from the terrace and from the inside and outside dining areas and kitchen.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds.
Discounts may be available for last minute bookings please do ask us! There will be discount on longer lets, of more than 3 weeks. At Christmas and New Year a breakages deposit of £50 is required (refundable at our discretion).

Changeover day
Many flights to Lanzarote arrive on Thursday, so this is the usual changeover day, but this is flexible.

Bedrooms: The master bedroom has a king size bed, ceiling fan and en-suite shower room.
There are 2 spacious twin rooms, one of which coverts to have a double bed.
There is another double room available in a self-contained apartment.
Bathrooms: One en-suite shower room with basin and wc (master bedroom). Also accessable from the terrace so pool users don't need to go through the house to rinse off.
Bathroom with shower over bath, twin basins, bidet, wc.
Further shower room and wc in apartment.
Kitchen: The kitchen is large with plenty of worktop space and a window hatch to outside the dining area. There is a serving bar to the living room. Full cooker, hob microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher.
Utility Room: Door to terrace. Washing machine, iron and small board.
Living Rooms: The living room is cool with a ceiling fan, is spacious and connects to the kitchen by a servery. TV, DVD. The dining area extends from the living room and has large double windows and sea and mountain views.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
Plenty of towels and linen included and changed weekly. The pool will be cleaned once a week during your stay (price included).

Accessibility
There are a number of steps up to the main entrance and between the terraces.

Outside
There is a solar heated private swimming pool on its own terrace with room for sunbathing. The upper terrace has a covered seating area and patio table with chairs and parasol. There is a built in barbecue. There are walled cactus gardens that we are developing to encourage wildlife.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beach of Playa Honda is about 10 minutes by car.
The popular resort of Puerto del Carmen with its long sandy beaches, is about 15 minutes away. Excellent diving and snorkeling can be found at the adjacent Playa Chica, along with other water sports. Drive across the island to the northern Atlantic coast and you will reach the surfing beach of Famara, in about 20 minutes. The idyllic southern beaches of Playa Blanca can be reached in 40 minutes.

Travel
Casa Hoopoe is situated 10 minutes from Arrecife airport.
Car hire is essential, and there are lots of hire companies at Arrivals at the airport. Or car hire can be arranged on line before you go.

Distances
Casa Hoopoe is situated on the edge of the village of Guime which has a shop, bar and church. Other shops including a large supermarket are a few minutes away in the car.
Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen are 15 minutes away - east and west respectively. The Spanish town of Teguise with its lively Sunday market and some great restaurants, is 15 minute inland. From Guime you can walk up Montana Blanca for spectacular views. The drive to Timanfaya National Park passes Lanzarote's unique vineyards.

Further details
There is a friendly and well stocked village 'supermarket' in Guime,and a bar. A large supermarket and shopping centre are 10 minutes drive. There are several restaurants in nearby St Bartolome, and at Playa Honda.

About the owner
We live in Northumberland which is beautiful but can be a touch cold and dark in the winter so Casa Hoopoe is our antidote! We visit whenever we can. Nick is a keen diver and Penny loves snorkeling. The kids are just discovering both. We enjoy walking and wildlife watching and the surreal volcanic landscape of Lanzarote. We appreciate the influence that Cesar Manrique has had on the island - limiting high rise buildings and billboards for example and we enjoy seeing his sculptures on many of the roundabouts.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We chose Lanzarote as the nearest place to the UK for year round sun and great diving! We have had a house in Lanzarote for years and have been regular visitors but only purchased Casa Hoopoe last year to be more centrally located on the island and closer to good diving and snorkeling beaches. We were delighted to find Casa Hoopoe in its peaceful village location. And the sea views are fantastic! We named it after our favorite bird on the island that is sometimes seen from the villa. We are looking forward to being creative with the large garden area.

Unique benefits of the property
Another reason we chose Casa Hoopoe was for the large the pool. It occupies its own spacious terrace, So if you don't want to get splashed you can stay on the upper terrace where the villa is and gaze out to sea! Or watch out for hoopoes. The kids will happily spend most of the day in and around the pool. There is a larger shaded seating on the terrace which is very conducive to relaxation when you have had enough sun, but still affords the same wonderful view of palm trees and the Atlantic Ocean. We were also attracted to the spacious living room and good sized kitchen which is put to much use when the family are with us - it is extremely convenient being able to pass everything through the kitchen window to the outdoor dining area.
