Accommodation

Notes on accommodation
Our apartment benefits from having air conditioning which in our opinion is an absolute must during the summer months. This also has a heating facility should the need arise during the winter months although highly unlikely! This ensures all year round comfort. On the sink unit in the kitchen, we have installed an additional tap facility on which the water is purified and as such is drinkable. As you probably gather standard tap water is not drinkable, although with this facility this saves the cost, time and effort in trips to the supermarket buying bottled water which we are sure you will appreciate is a huge benefit. We have also installed black out blinds to the bedrooms as well as curtains ensuring a good night's sleep.There is a satellite TV system with approx 100 English speaking channels. There is also a radio facility which can pick up Radio 1, 2 etc along with numerous others as well. You can sit in the sunshine having your breakfast listening to Terry Wogan or Chris Moyles!!

Amenities/Facilities provided

Accessibility
The apartment is situated on the first floor and as such would be difficult to access for a disabled person. I believe there are approx 9 steps from ground to first floor to one end which increases to approx 14 steps to the far end of the building. However, once in the apartment it is mainly open planed and as such should hopefully be ok. Please feel free to contact us directly to discuss your requirements/needs as we are only too pleased to advise accordingly.

Outside
To the rear of the lounge are patio doors leading to a large balcony area where there is a good sized table and six chairs which are very comfortable for using both when relaxing during the day or for dining purposes. We have also installed black out blinds to the patio doors (between the lounge area and balcony) as well as curtains which help to keep the apartment cool during the day and also help aid a good night's sleep if the sofa bed is in use.
Less than 100 metres from the apartment is a communal pool which is ideal for throwing yourself into on those gorgeous sunny days and a firm favourite with the children (should you have them!)
We also have three reclining deck chairs which can be used on the balcony or around the pool area or beach (approx 5 mins walk). Please remember to bring them back with you!!
To the front of the apartments there is ample on street parking facility should you consider hiring a car.

Coast/Beach
Costa Calma beach is approximately 5 minutes walk from the apartment. It is cleaned daily and is plenty long enough for early morning joggers to have a decent workout on it. There is plenty to do on the beach including sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling, wind surfing, hiring of jet skis etc. Further round the coast there are sailing schools and kite surfing schools should you wish to embark on a new challenge. There are various beach bars and numerous sun beds and umbrellas for hire as well.

Golf
Golf is a very popular sport on Fuerteventura where there is an excellent course in Caleta De Fuste which hosted the Spanish Open in 2004. Despite Fuerteventura's almost constant sunshine and little rain, the course has beautiful greens. The course also boasts a five star club house, pro shop, a resident PGA Professional, a driving range, chipping area, practice bunker and putting green.

Caleta De Fuste is approximately 30/40 minutes drive north from our apartment in Costa Calma.

In addition there is a further course in Morro Jable which is due to open in September 2007 and is approximately a 15 minute drive away.

Special interest holidays
During July/August, Hundreds of wind surfers descend on Fuerteventura when the island is host to the World Wind Surfing championship held at Satavento Beach, approximately 4 kilometres from our apartment and as such an easy drive or taxi ride. This is a huge event every year and is a must for anyone visiting the island during this time.

What’s more is that a huge Marquee is erected on the beach for the duration of the event which is open during the day (free of charge) with Live Bands and food and drink facilities. However, during the evening, between the hours of 11pm and 5am you can party the night away with live bands and DJ’s etc. Tickets can normally be purchased on the door (no children to the evening event) where you can rub shoulders with the best of the best windsurfers and the Kite surfers on the planet.

Travel
The Islands airport is approx 80km from our apartment. We can arrange airport collection/delivery if required please contact us for further details. Once in Costa Calma there should be everything you need and as such car hire is not essential. The next main town Of Morro Jable is approx 15/20 mins drive/bus or taxi ride (approx 15 euros) away should you want a change of scenery.

Further details
The special duty free status of the Canary Islands means that items such as tobacco, alcohol and perfumes are much cheaper than in UK/Europe. Bear in mind that there are limits to the amount of these products that you can bring back with you! Costa Calma also has a weekly Sunday Morning Market, this is a colourful crowded affair which starts about 9am and carries on until early afternoon. There is a whole range of goods on offer to include anything from having a massage through to counterfeit designer bags, watches, clothing and sun glasses.

There are a variety of bars, restaurants and hotels situated throughout Costa Calma to be enjoyed. However, for those seeking more life, this can be found in the next main resort south of Costa Calma in Morro Jable whcih is a 15 minute drive away.

There are two principle theme park attractions in Fuerteventura, the water park in Corrlaejo (to the north of the island) and the Oasis Park Zoo in La Lajita (near Costa Calma). The Oasis Park is only a short drive from the apartment and comprises of being a Zoo and Botanical Gardens. The Zoo features over 200 species including alligators, monkeys, giraffes, sea lions, zebras and birds etc. The 200,000 square metres of botanical gardens which feature many endemic species and cacti can be enjoyed from the back of a camel on the camel safari. There are four main shows throughout the day to include a parrot show, Sea Lion show (which is excellent), birds of prey show which includes seeing falcons, eagles, Vultures and Owls etc in flight in an open air arena. Furthermore there is the reptile show which includes Crocodiles, Alligators and Snakes which again is highly entertaining particularly when the Zoo keeper puts his hand in the Croc’s mouth!!! All in all a great family day out and only 10 minutes in a car from our Apartment.

Booking notes
20% of the rental fee to secure booking and balance due six weeks prior to departure. On arrival ther is a 60€ fee paid to the house keeper for a final clean after your departure.
