Notes on accommodation
The house is beautifully positioned in the countryside, situated just outside the village of Teseguite down a quiet lane,it is bathed in sun all day, yet it remains very comfortable in the heat with the offshore breezes. All the rooms have very high ceilings so we have found no need for heating or air conditioning all through the year. This is a really family friendly home and great for children of all ages! The owners have made every effort to provide all that you may need on holiday with plenty of variety and scope for fun. The house is powered by wind and solar power, it is rather unique, and no mains power cuts! TV/DVDs and CD are provided and Freeview is available in the drawing room and kitchen. The inner courtyard sports two 6pdr Naval cannons to keep out the Pirates. Water pressure is fine, but don't expect power shower equivalents! We have staff on call should any problems occur, these are rare but just like our own homes in Britain things do happen.

Accessibility
Unfortunately this property is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Outside
The gardens are huge and there is tons to see and do, full of indigenous Canarian plants it is an excellent retreat for all tastes, there is plenty of space and lots of different areas to sit and relax and get a little personal space when needed. The pool is very large, 12m x 6m, with a constant depth of 1.4m, access is via three large steps, (great safe place for children). At night two pool lights illuminate to provide a wonderful romantic setting for a late night dip. The pool area is vast and screened for privacy, and is nicely walled and fenced with three access gates which can be locked. Beyond the pool is the games garden where a number of games can be enjoyed, ideal and safe for all ages. A boule court with balls, is located in the walled garden, which is overlooked by the Moorish pergola, an enchanting place to relax. The sun terrace which overlooks the pool has a large dining table beneath a Bamboo roofed pergola, a fridge, huge BBQ and plenty of sunbeds great for tanning.

Coast/Beach
There are plenty of excellent beaches on the island, and they are not black sand! Our favourite beach is little known to the tourist and is just 15mins drive from the house at Arrieta, it is great for surfing in one part & is fabulous for safe family bathing in the other. It has golden sand, a pier and crystal clear warm water, it also has two excellent beach cafes serving delicious tapas, and drinks. The beach at Famara is about 20mins drive. The Island has a wealth of other lovely beaches too.

Golf
The large international 18-hole Golf course at Costa Teguise is only about 15 minutes drive away. It is beautifully maintained and offers even the better golfers a challenging round.
A fantastic new course has been built at Puerto del Carmen which is only about 25 minutes from the house. This has an excellent restaurant apparently, but we have not tasted/tested in yet, amazing views to the Ocean, beautiful greens, quite expensive for a round but cheaper in the latter part of the day.

Travel
Check out Easyjet and Ryanair for great prices. The airport of Arrecife is 20 mins, and a taxi trip to the house is normally about 20 euros, the taxis are excellent clean modern cars, with helpful drivers they are metered. Car hire is easy we recommend one particular company who we have used for years, they have 4 - 7 seaters, and they will deliver and collect from the airport or house. We highly recommend hiring a car as there is a lot to see.

Distances
The ancient capital of Teguise with plenty of good shops including a really well stocked general store, and excellent grocer is just 3km away, our village Teseguite is a few hundred yards. Modern supermarket shopping is available in Arrecife about 12kms, and 15kms to St Bartholomew. The island is quite small so knowhere is very far away the roads are now very good and navigation is not difficult. Excellent bus and Taxi services are avialable and are not expensive.

Further details
This Island is beautiful and fascinating, we provide a detailed information pack with listings of places of interest and things to do, you could never be bored here whatever your interests. It has become very cultural and in many areas rather exclusive. Within Teguise city are some stunning restaurants serving delicious fresh food, we list our recommendations at the house, we know of 12 which we have tried and tested, two superb international restaurants and some excellent local Spanish/Canarian places to eat, they are family friendly and you are never too late for lunch. There are two cash point machines, a Bank, a Chemist, petrol station. Some fabulous clothes boutiques. There are galleries and artisan shops selling some lovely items and not just tourist junk! Every Sunday there is a massive lively market with everything happening. Every bar, cafe, restaurant and shop is open, there is dancing, music, art and hundreds of stalls where you can buy all sorts. A great tourist attraction, but a great morning out. All around the island there are some lovely beaches and really well presented tourist attractions, these are mainly inspired or designed by the late Caesar Manrique and offer fantastic things to see, set in marvelous surroundings abounding in plants and wonderful colour. There are stunningly located Castles, one is a museum of Canarian culture, another an art gallery with fabulous glass fronted restaurant right by the main port, the food is delicious the setting amazing, my son's thought it was something from James Bond! The scenery is amazing, sunrises from the house are brilliant, with the sun emerging as a fireball from the Atlantic, sunsets over the mountains are incredible and best viewed from the Gran Hotel cocktail bar. Excellent free magazine called the Gazette is well worth getting as it lists all the attractions, and details many interesting articles.

About the owner
The house is owned by John & Allison who rebuilt the house, real hands on work with support from a local builder. We even built the pool! So we are pretty hard working down to earth sort of people. John is an ex Army Major and SFPara. Our family George, Hugo and Charlotte all helped as well.Charlotte at the age of four helped paint the front path. We live in Somerset in the country, John now builds superb sportscars, see JHClassics.com. Allison runs the house and never stops working. George is an artist and graphic designer, Hugo works for an event company and Charlotte is adored by everybody and is enjoying Primary School. We love working in the garden, fast cars, entertaining, good food and wine and having as much fun in and around our busy days.

Year purchased: 2002

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We spent 2 years trying to find a really super house for sale, and one that we could put our mark on so we bought this delightful old Casa, derelict for 45 years when we bought it. The house is set in the countryside with stunning 360 degree views,we are surrounded by our own land and nobody can build on it which is fabulous. The house is outside the village on its own so it is really quiet and private. The sun rises out of the sea like a ball of fire and is breathtaking to watch. We are only 3km from the old capital so shopping is easy and fun. The airport is only 15-20 mins easy drive away, all on good roads. The beach is golden sand, clean and close.Everybody loves the house its position, views and privacy, a very special retreat lovely to come home to after a day out and great to stay in.

Unique benefits of the property
One of the best benefits of the house is its privacy and quietness. You can really relax and unwind. The house is furnished like a real home with no make do measures or old furniture from a car boot sale, and the simple reason is, is because it is our second home and we don't like compromise and we want all our friends and guests to have a really good comfortable stay. We are not in a complex we employ our own staff, no agency is involved we visit and work on the house regularly so we know the standard remains how we want it. There are tons of places to relax and to get away from others if you need a bit of space. The house is environmentally friendly with wind and solar power but operates just like a normal house, and even better it does not suffer from the endless island power cuts.
