Valle Gran Rey is the main independent tourist destination of La Gomera and comprises the west coast of the island perfect for watching romantic sunsets. It`s stunning natural beauty and laid back charm are key factors in making it a holiday hit! La Calera is the oldest part of Valle Gran Rey selected for it`s climate, not too hot in summer not too cold in winter, anyone who had enough money to build a house would build it here. 10 minutes walk to the Atlantic and its beaches and 2 minutes from the start of the main mountain treks it`s perfectly situated for walkers and sun worshippers alike. Stone steps lead you from street level up to the apartment which is open plan on one floor. The small supermarket over the road is open til 9 and provides fresh local fruit and veg and most other requirements, this and the well equipped kitchen are ideal for keen cooks. 2 minutes walk down the road and you hit the first of a number of cosy family-run restaurants situated in La Calera.

Accommodation
Bedrooms: 1 bedroom with double brass bed (quality pocket sprung mattress), fitted wardrobes and bedside tables. Wood laminate floor and opening window to small back yard. Morning sun through glass block window.
Bathrooms: Bathroom with washbasin, wc and built in shower. The basin is in solid stone and the shower has a turquoise glass wall on one side and a high window with beautiful mountain view on the other.
Kitchen: The kitchen is newly fitted with double sink, oven with ceramic hob, (both Siemens) fridge freezer, labradorite worktops, fully equipped with all utensils.
Utility Room: Small storage/utility room next to the entrance, the washing machine and drying is on the roof terrace.
Living Rooms: This living area is open-plan comprising of a dining area, a cosy corner-sofa tv/sitting area and a window seating area ideal for morning coffee or afternoon tea. The front of the flat is taken up by a full panoramic window with veiws up the valley.
Other: Access to the terrace is up a tiled staircase on the side of the building. Amazing views right down the valley and of the sea and sunset (depending on time of year) sunloungers and table and chairs. There is also a lovely garden situated across the road.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
2 sets of towels and linen are provided and changed for new arrivals, a full cleaning service can be arranged on request.

Notes on accommodation
We are afraid that pets are not accepted. There is a DVD player which can be used to watch films or listen to music. We have a WIFI internet connection for people bringing their laptops.

Accessibility
This apartment is not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties or prams/pushchairs as there are 2 flights of stone steps up to the entrance. A taxi can stop at the bottom of the stairs on a one-way system that runs through Calera but its generally quite steep and rustic in and around the area.

Outside
This property affords a garden with a huge avocado tree.

Coast/Beach
There are a number of beaches in Valle Gran Rey starting in the north with Playa del Ingles which is a wild and rugged naturist beach. Currents can be strong and caution should be exercised when bathing here. Further along comes Playa Maria which is the main stretch of beach and is usually safe for bathing. Moving south we come to Charco del Conde which is a small bay, always safe for bathing but not very deep. Then comes the harbour beach of Vueltas, always safe to swim and good for snorkeling.

Golf
There is a Golf course in Santiago which is 20 minutes away from the port of Valle Gran Rey with the Garajonay Express fast ferry.

Travel
Arriving in Tenerife south airport, take a taxi to the port of Los Cristianos (about 20 minutes). There you will find the Garajonay Expres (www.garajonayexpres.com) which offers a fast Hydrofoil trip to Valle Gran Rey (about 90 minutes), these boats go 3 times a day. Car hire can be arranged but its better to do this on the Island. Once at the port of Valle Gran Rey your accommodation is a five minute taxi ride away.

Distances
La Calera offers 7 family run restaurants where it`s also possible to have a quiet drink. The main nightlife and shopping areas are in Playa Maria and Vueltas, both a ten minute walk away. This makes La Calera the ideal place to get away from it all and not have to worry about noisy bars and discos. There is a bank at the bottom of the village with a cash dispenser about 5 minutes walk from your accommodation.

Further details
La Gomera is arguably the most beautiful of the Canary islands. Being volcanic contributes to its special charms with deep cut valleys and rockfaces. The highest point, the peak of Garajonay in the centre, rises 1.478 m above sea level from where you can see mount Teide with its summit above the clouds. Looking down the barrancos or valleys disappearing into the sea there is a tropical feel with jungle type vegetation. The top of the island which would once have been the crater of the volcano is covered with sub-tropical rainforest which has a mystical, magical allure.

We loved the tranquility of this beautiful apartment and slept like royalty on the sooo comfortable bed!
The bathroom is so beautiful I want Emma to come and renovate mine, although the view from the shower is a one off!
