Patacho Beach House is superbly located on a very special beach which this year was listed in Brazil's Top 3 beaches with a 5-star rating according to Brazil’s premiere beach guide 4 Rodas. In front of the house reefs, the second longest in the world, create natural swimming pools of crystalline blue water, ideal for families. When the tide is low one can walk out for over a kilometre to the reefs. The house is well-located for extended walks along the beach set to a backdrop of coconut trees - perfect to enjoy the simple things in life such as a beautiful sunrise, starry night skies, peace and tranquility. The house was featured in the Brazilian design magazine 'Arquitetura e Construcao' as part of a special issue focusing on new Brazilian design.

Bedrooms: All 3 bedrooms have king-size beds with orthopaedic mattresses. The master bedroom is en suite, with air-conditioning, the others have large wall-mounted fans. Each room has its own veranda with sea views. The mezzanine can be used used as a 4th bedroom.
Bathrooms: Large en-suite to master bedroom with shower, wc and handbasin.
Bathroom two is beautifully decorated with traditional Portuguese caustic tiles and has a separate shower and wc rooms.
Kitchen: The kitchen is fully equipped and our maid Maria Helena can help prepare traditional local dishes like squid rice. 6 ring cooker and large fridge/freezer (426 litres). There is lots of workspace plus all the necessary kitchen equipment for cooking.
Living Rooms: The main body of the house comprises of an open-plan kitchen and lounge area with double height roof which makes it particularly well-ventilated.
This opens on to a large varanda ideal for dining.
Other: On the mezzanine is a chilled out television area with dvd and cd-player. There is also a desk ideal for setting up a laptop.

There is an external sink for preparing fish etc, and an external shower for use coming from the beach.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
Towels and bed clothes supplied. Maria Helena cleans the house on a daily basis. The gardener, Laudemir, looks after all aspects of the house and garden. For a small extra cost Maria Helena can prepared wonderful traditional dishes from the region.

Notes on accommodation
Coral reefs in front of the house create natural swimming pools of crystalline blue water, ideal for families. The reefs also offer a good location for fishing. Fishing trips can also be organised in a nearby river. The house is well-located for extended walks along the beach set to a backdrop of coconut trees - perfect to enjoy the simple things in life such as a beautiful sunrise, starry night skies, peace and tranquility. The house was recently fitted with solar panels providing hot water.

Outside
The large garden with coconut trees (the gardener can cut down coconuts for drinking) leads directly out on the beach. At the front of the garden is a pergolada with chaises to enjoy a book or cocktails right by the sea. There is also an external shower for use after the beach.

Coast/Beach
This stretch of coast is protected by natural reefs which create calm sandy beaches. Heading south along the beach from the house one can walk for several miles encountering just a few houses. You will mainly see local fishermen searching for shellfish. After about 1 1/2 hours walking you will arrive at Tatuamnunha River which is ideal for swimming and hosts the peixe-boi (sea cow) project. Other beautiful beaches close-by include Toque, Laje and Barra de Sao Miguel.

Special interest holidays
The region is ideal for diving and trips can easily be arranged. Fishing trips can also be arrange. It is also possible to go horse-riding on a 5km stretch of beach. The local town of Porto de Pedras has three clay tennis courts which are free to use.

Travel
The house is 2.5 hours by car from the international airport of Recife and 1.5 hours from the city of Maceio. Car hire is recommended.

The house is located 2km from the historic town of Porto de Pedras.

Further details
In Porto de Pedras one can find convenience stores, fishmonger, baker, butcher, chemist, post office, Bradesco bank (with a cash point which accepts most international cards), and local restaurants like the Marinente (named after it’s owner), which has delicious locals favorites like lagostim in coconut milk. Owing to the natural reefs formed in this stretch of coast it is a good place for diving and fishing. Boat trips can be easily arranged.

Booking notes
Payment can be by UK cheque, international bank transfer or Pay Pal. A 30% deposit is required to secure a reservation. The balance is requested 4 weeks before the reservation begins.

I could have given up everything and continued to live in Patacho with nothing but a few coconuts and Casa Patacho, a true practical paradise inspiring a chilled out and easy mindset, great great vibes, this is a juicy slice of real Brazil.

Philippa White (Canada) An absolutely perfect retreat if you're wanting to get away from the city and enjoy time in paradise. Both houses are absolutely stunning, beautifully put together, so comfortable and perfectly situated in front of the beach. You can't help but feel relaxed and rejuvenated after a stay. I can't recommend Praia do Patacho enough.

About the owner
I am a Brazilian Interior Designer who has been living in London for over a decade. My husband has been organising Brazilian cultural events in the UK for the last 10 years and has written extensively about Brazilian culture including contributing to the Insight Guide to Brazil focusing specifically on the Northeast of the country. We are both deeply passionate about the country and the culture. Part of the income from the house goes to a Recife-based NGO working with street kids and is used to organise regular workshops which help to promote self-esteem.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We discovered Patacho beach whilst on our honeymoon and knew instantly this was the place for us to build our dream house. There is nothing more fantastic than watching the sunrise whilst local fishermen return from a night's work, only too happy to sell you a share of their catch. One can then enjoy the early morning breeze with an extended walk (there is an uninterrupted 10km stretch) on the beach before heading back for a hearty breakfast prepared by Maria Helena.

Unique benefits of the property
The property offers a unique reinterpretation of vernacular Brazilian design with a contemporary twist. The project was recently featured in the Brazilian design magazine 'Arquitetura e Construcao' (Architecture and Construction) as part of a special feature on modern Brazilian design.
