Garnish Island is a little way north of Ballydehob self-catering farmhouses and is famous for its spectacular gardens. Although mainly in the Italian style they borrow elements and architectural features from a host of different world cultures and boast a number of plant species that can normally only be found in tropical environments. Bantry House and Gardens are also well worth a visit, and sit about 20 minutes from cottages in Ballydehob. The exquisite mansion was constructed in the early 18th Century and is home to the Armada Centre, an attraction that details an attempted French invasion of Ireland in the late 1700s. A little further away from Ballydehob self-catering accommodation is the scenic Killarney National Park, which boasts large expanses of ancient woodland as well as historical landmarks like 15th Century Ross Castle.
