Built in in the 1890s, this farmhouse is just ten minutes drive from the airport. It's actually two houses in one. Adjoined to the main house is La Boyera, a completely self-contained annex, which is perfect for independent children, staff or another family sharing. Each house sleeps six. In addition, there is a day bed in the main house, which can accommodate a child.
The house is surrounded by four terraces, with shaded dining for a total of 14. It sits in a beautifully maintained formal garden of about an acre. Beyond, a path meanders through seven fields of olive trees and wild flowers, separated by a total of 1.2kms of ancient dry stone walls, which serve to protect the resident 200 wild tortoises.
Inside, antique furniture stands among handmade silk curtains, hanging from poles forged by a village blacksmith to our own design. All the bed linen is Egyptian cotton. The rugs are Persian and oil paintings adorn the walls. The house is light, cool and airy.

Notes on accommodation
The property is in effect two houses in one. There's the main house, which sleeps 6/7 and there is 'La Boyera', a converted cattle shed that's attached to the main house, but with no internal door and sleeps 6. La Boyera is fully equipped, with its own kitchen, featuring a dishwasher and washing machine. It has its own front door. Perfect for independent teenagers, staff or another family sharing.
In the main house, the master bedroom has a large dressing room. This is also a perfect room for a cot, as there are part-glazed doors between it and the bedroom.
Accessibility
The property has not been adapted for wheelchair use, but does benefit from having the master bedroom in the main house on the ground floor. The same applies to the three bedrooms in the annex.
Outside
The private pool is about 12 metres long and five metres wide. It is surrounded by terracing and a beautifully manicured lawn, all walled and gated. There are about ten sun loungers. In addition, there is an outside shower. (Cold water only). The old original well has been transformed into a BBQ area. Here, there is also a food prep area, complete with sink and running water. On the terrace at the rear of the main house is a glass topped dining table with eight chairs, in the shade of a massive olive tree. By the annex, is another outside dining table with seating for six. This is shaded by a thatched canopy. There is also a fold-up table, which can be added to either of these two tables to provide seating for 12/14.
There is an all-weather ping pong table and a croquet set.
You are welcome to explore the fields. They're fully enclosed by ancient dry stone walls. In fact the only access point to the entire six acres is through the main gate.
Ample parking in the large driveway.
Coast/Beach
The nearest big beach is at Punta Prima, 10 minutes drive away. It's Menorca's oldest resort, with arguably the finest beach and plenty of restaurants and bars. You'll always find a parking space in the huge car park, even in mid-August. The same can't be said for many other popular beaches. There's also a small cove with a little beach 25 minutes walk from the house through beautiful countryside. 5 minutes by car is Cales Fonts, a picturesque harbour with some great tapas.
Golf
There is an 18 hole golf course 20 minutes drive away at Son Parc.
Travel
The main airport of Mahon is about a ten minute drive. A hire car is recommended.
Distances
There are no bars or restaurants in Trebaluger, but just 400 metres from the farmhouse is an excellent family-run supermarket, which is also home to one of the island's finest butchers. A couple of minutes drive away is the nearest town of Sant Lluis, which has numerous restaurants, bars and shops, as well as an English-speaking bank, a petrol station, chemist, tabac and more supermarkets.
Further details
Like the rest of Spain, all localities in Menorca have a designated status, ie Commercial, Industrial, Tourist etc. Trebaluger is officially Residential and as a result there are local customs to adhere to, principally to do with noise. I hope your main reason for staying in Trebaluger is to enjoy the peace and quiet. If you're planning large, late, loud al fresco dinners every night into the early hours, then this is not the house for you. It is because Trebaluger is so quiet that noise travels so far.
Booking notes
A 25% non-refundable deposit is required at time of booking. The balance is payable two months before the start of your stay.
Guest comments
“Thank you so much for the wonderful holiday my family and I experienced in your magnificent Menorcan farmhouse! The space inside the house ensured that our (rather large) family never felt cramped. The big farmhouse kitchen, the charming décor along with 21st century comforts (en-suite bathrooms and modern appliances) made us feel instantly at home and in a holiday mood. The wonderful garden, pool and grounds outside provided endless entertainment for all, from the wildlife (tortoises, lizards and gekkos) and croquet lawn to the sparkling pool and hammock (my personal favourite). It was sometimes an effort to tear ourselves away in order to experience the beautiful beaches on offer on this idyllic island. We will not hesitate to recommend your place to friends and family and hope to visit again in the near future.” S. Vico, Bourne End, Sept 2011
Owner profile
About the owner
Ten years ago, on our first visit to Menorca, I was driving through Sant Lluis and got held up in traffic. When I leaned out the window to see what was causing the jam, I saw that the driver of a car some way ahead had stopped to chat with a friend on the pavement. No one was hooting, everyone just waited. At that moment, I 'got' Menorca. Perhaps, long ago all of Europe was like this. I found this relaxed, laid back approach to life infectious and soon ended up buying a property. I love it here and can't get out often enough.
