Owner profile
About the owner
I have loved Son Torrella all my life as originally it belonged to my Grandmother who bought it in 1932. I have such happy memories of childhood holidays there and now have been able to see my own children enjoying the same. My husband and I also often go there by ourselves or with friends and love sitting on the gallery, looking down on the courtyard, hearing only the fountain or the bells of the sheep amongst the almond and olive trees of our small farm – heaven! We also spend a lot of time in the garden, which my grandmother designed, planting, pruning and planning – or sitting in the shade of the terrace doing nothing at all!
Why the owner chose a guest house in this location
Situated near the foothills of the Sierra de Tramuntana, Son Torrella has escaped the urban development of so much of the coastal areas of Majorca. The house is a haven of peace and quiet in very rural surroundings and its grounds lead right up to the hills of the mountain range. The more adventurous guests can discover the waterfall in the cave at the top of the valley or climb up to the mountain village of Alaro where they will find a cold beer or a delicious lunch. Santa Maria with its shops, bars, local restaurants and famous Sunday market is only five minutes drive away – it also has frequent direct train services to Palma’s city centre and is only half an hour from Palma airport.
Unique benefits of the property
Son Torrella has a particularly peaceful atmosphere and it seems to appeal to all ages as it is not just a holiday villa, it is a real home. There are so many places to sit and relax – inside and out – and there is so much space to enjoy whether just sitting on the gallery or lounging by the pool and its pavilion which is perfect for al fresco lunches and barbecues. My loyal guests return year after year and say that apart from the unique beauty of the place, they also love the fact that breakfast appears and the rooms are cleaned and tidied for them as this makes it feel like a real holiday.
