Village House with Private Pool in Soller
L'horta - midway between Beach and Town
Sleeps 4 -6 (4 Bedrooms)

|
A village house in a village street in Soller. The real Mallorca where people live and work with a smile and a nod to those lucky enough to be on holiday.
A large house on three levels with a garden, small orchard, two terraces and a swimming pool. From the front door you would have no idea of what lies behind. The mountain scenery from the back of the house and garden is awesome. In the distance you can see the Soller train as it crosses the viaduct to wind down the mountain to the station. In the summer the sun blazes over the Tramontana mountain range and is our constant view. In the winter the tops are often dusted with snow and the beauty of nature surrounds. Our house has stood for 100 years in this spot and updates and renovations have been made to make it fit for the purpose of 2012 but essentially it is a character filled old Mallorquin house.

Notes on accommodation
Our house is a tall house on three floors with plenty of tiled stairs. The garden is long and narrow which is completely typical of the houses of our area. Our front door leads straight into the street and there is ample parking in the road outside on a first come first served basis. There are many original features in the house but also a healthy dose of modernity to make it very comfortable.
We have many local contacts that can contribute to your holiday here. Matt Dean a freelance local Tennis Coach will be happy to hear from you - details on request.
In house catering or food cooked for you to serve yourselves can be organised to your specification. Please feel free to ask - we will do our best to make it happen!
Air-conditioning is available in three bedrooms.
Wifi available in the office
Accessibility
The stairs make this a difficult house for people with mobilty problems - sorry.
Outside
A garden with an apricot, apple, orange tree and the beginnings of a small orchard is a great place for childrens games. A small, FENCED swimming pool provides hours of enjoyment for the children and refreshing cool downs for the adults. The pool is fenced with a gated access from the patio. The pool is not heated and, weather permitting is comfortable to use from June to September. Outside those months it depends on how hardy you are! A couple of steps down from the pool is the patio with dining table and chairs poised for that evening drink and barbeque. The terrace that leads from the kitchen contains another dining table giving a choice of dining locations. The upper terrace tends not to get used as there are so many other options but it is a great sun trap and from the terrace you can see for miles.
Coast/Beach
The beach at the Port of Soller is 5 mins away in the car, 25 mins walk - not recommended in the heat!
The best way to get there is on the Tram - we have a tram stop two minutes from the house which runs 365 days a year. The timetable varies according to the season but it is a great means of transport! Tram to beach - 10 mins travel time.
Tram tickets costs 5€ per person per journey.
The bus stop is 5 mins walk from the house. Regular bus service to Palma, Deia and Valldemossa.
Golf
St Ermins Golf course 20 mins away on the road to Valldemossa.
Special interest holidays
Soller is the hidden valley of Mallorca with beautiful mountain scenery wherever you look. Recently inaugerated as a World Heritage Site for its outstanding natural beauty. Cyclists, walkers and beach lovers can find it all here.
We are near the Route 221 walking trails which links up all sides of the Tramontana mountains in the Soller valley.
Our friends at Tramontana Tours -based in Soller and the Port rent bikes and organise walking tours for individuals and groups. We recommend them to you.
We have links with our friends at Earth Yoga based in Palma. Their Soller based teachers woud be pleased to provide private yoga sessions at the house. Price on application.
In the foothills of the Tamontana mountains and the Raixa building on the Palma side of the Soller tunnel there are wonderful riding stables. Special holiday weeks are organised for children and young people to get to know and ride horses. Treks into the cool of the mountain countryside and much more.
Travel
Palma Airport is 30 mins away by taxi. Car hire is not essential as once here you are near tram and bus stop but for doing a large shop and the flexibility that the car gives it is recommended.
The price of using the tram for a family versus hiring a car always concludes that hiring a car is better value for money. From April 2012 the Tram fare is 5€ per journey with children aged 3 -6 being charged half price. Children of 7 and over are charged full price.
Distances
Soller town - 5 mins in the car, 10 mins on the tram or 20 mins walk.
Port of Soller. 5 mins in the car, 10 mins on the tram or 25 mins walk.
Deia - 30 mins drive on the mountain and coast road.
Fornalutx- 15 mins in the car.
Further details
Our street has two small bars and a very local shop. This is very handy for warm bread in the morning and the essentials along with the slow pace and village gossip that goes with it. At the top of the road there is a bakery and a Mallorquin Take Away which is great for those nights you don't want to cook.
L'horta is a small village in it's own right with it's own church, school and tram stop. Situated half way between town and sea and the area of choice for many Solleric's to live.
The Eroski supermarket is the largest that Soller has and is a 15 minute walk (5 mins in the car) from the house - open from 9 -9 each day except Sunday. In high season it is open on Sunday mornings. Local butchers and small convenience stores exist in many local streets. Soller's market hall sells meat, fish, vegetables, bread and more and is open 6 days a week (limited supply on Mondays)
Soller has a town market in the centre on Saturday mornings from 8 am. The highlight of the week where shopping and gossiping are given equal weight.
Soller has many banks and a post office. The tourist information kiosk is located near the train station.

Dear Shirley and Trevor. The week home has gone so fast. The tan is still there to remind us however. Your house was one of the best holiday rentals we have had. The house was more like a home, and was full of character. Of course character is sometimes a disguised reference for unimproved and possibly not working, but everything worked well and the kitchen introduced me to the joys of Induction Cooking! Your personal help and interest made us feel like guests not clients, and obtaining our residence passes greatly enhanced our stay. We felt like locals at the end of the holiday, hopping on and off our tram! Many thanks and very best wishes. Mike Helen Emma Richard

Thank you so much for the use of your house for our Summer holiday. We loved everything about our holiday and Soller is a place we will return again and again. Your family friendly house really worked for us and we want to book 3 weeks for next year. Thankyou for your help and kindness - see you in 2012.

Owner profile
About the owner
We are 'relocators' to Soller. This is our home and the this is where we want to be. Originally from London we came here eight years ago as part of a three generational move to the Soller valley. Our children and grandchildren are here too and we have definitely relocated from North West London to North West Mallorca.
We love London and we love Soller - the two are not mutually exclusive. In our view Soller is Hampstead on the Med and we constantly pinch ourselves to believe that we really do live in this beautiful place.
We love our house and hope you enjoy your holiday in it. We live just round the corner and will welcome you with keys and as much or as little information from us as you want.
We wish you happy holidays in the 'Hidden Valley'.
Year purchased: 2005
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We fell in love with the 'Hidden Valley' of Soller many years ago when our children were small. As they grew and we earned a bit of money we bought a holiday flat on the Repic beach and our love affair just grew. Our children spent all their holidays there and we spent increasingly more and more time until retirement was looming and we had a few family relocation decisions to make.
Mallorca and Soller in particular has got it all. Cosmopolitan interesting people - all with a story to tell (some we believe and others we reserve judgement). A fantastic climate and the most majestic and awesome scenery in the world. The English in the Soller valley are a great bunch and not ex-pats in the derisory sense at all!
Soller to us is Hampstead on sea and we are content with that.
Unique benefits of the property
We chose our house because it is part of the working community. Our neighbours are Mallorquin and Spanish with odd French and German thrown in for good measure. There are two English people in our street and we are welcomed as 'proper people' i.e. those that have chosen to live in the real Mallorca and not in in an English enclave.
We chose it for its proximity to the beach, mountain walks, to town and the tram. L'horta means horticultural area and our area was the garden of Soller in the past. The famous oranges used to grow here and be exported over the world. Fruit trees are still very much in evidence including in our garden!
Our local shop sells the produce of the market gardens of our area - including the one right next door.
No carbon footprint in Soller.
