Cas Mila combines ancient charm and olivewood beams with mod cons (including internet access) and bright tasteful interiors. Cosy enough for a couple, roomy enough for a family. The large roof terrace has magnificent views of Puig Major and the high ridges of the valley and there is a small private patio, cooler in the heat of high Summer. The house is very comfortable and well-equipped to be a home from home for your holidays. It's adaptable for indoor and outdoor living, all year round. We are located via a short flight of steps off a quiet lane, the old footpath to Soller, but still only 3 minutes from the bustle and activity of the square, the shops and the restaurants. The house is accessible by car and only two minutes from the village bus stop. There is free parking on the lane. There's also on-the-spot English-speaking help and advice if you need it.

A boat trip from Port de Soller will you take you to the spectacular bay and valley of Sa Calobra (location for The Land that Time Forgot) or the quiet Cala Tuent. The rocky coast has many other small coves which can be reached only by boat.

Special interest holidays
Fornalutx is a wonderful centre for walking and trekking in the mountains and there are plenty of good walks around the village too. Guided walks for all levels of fitness and interest can be arranged through Hiking Mallorca.

Travel
Palma Airport 40 minutes by car or taxi. A delightful alternative is to take the 1920s electric train from Palma to Soller and a taxi for the short (3kms) run up to the village. If arriving by ferry in Palma journey time is similar. Car hire is not essential but is recommended for getting the most out of your sightseeing. However, there is now a bus service to/from Soller, with bus and train links to Palma and other parts of the island. There is also an excellent local taxi service.

Distances
Palma (25kms) the capital of the island is a sophisticated and picturesque city with wonderful shopping. It is 10kms to the famous monastery at Lluc, 15kms to Deya (spectacularly situated centre for arts and home to many celebrities) with its restaurants and pretty cove, 18kms to Valldemossa, home of Michael Douglas, Frederic Chopin and writer George Sand. There are many activities and entertainments on the island, for adults and children, most centred around the Bay of Palma.

Further details
The centre of the village is the square - La Plaza - with shops and bars around it - a great place to watch the world go by and meet people. There is a well-stocked supermarket - and a small competitor with keener prices and excellent bread - a pharmacy, two banks, two hairdressers, some shops selling clothes, accessories and good quality local products. There are several restaurants ranging from the traditional local cuisine to adventurous fusion.

Guest comments
Melanie Jones, Oxford. We spent a wonderful fortnight in Cas Mila. Despite the summer heat, we were never uncomfortable high in the mountains. The views from the terrace were breathtaking: as someone who likes to paint, I was thrilled by the ever-changing colours, particularly at sunset. The house was perfect : everything you could need, just as if you’d stepped as a welcome guest into someone’s home. Each room was a visual feast as well, with delightful paintings and furnishings that made you want to spend time in every part of the house. Perfect holiday.

Louella Miles, London. A stay at Cas Mila is like living in a painting: the colours and textures are typically Majorcine, while we quickly appreciated the contrast between the cool interior and what can be a baking exterior. Centuries old thick walls have their uses ! And only a short walk from the buzz of the plaza. Our stay there was one of the best holidays we have had. Long may Cas Mila welcome visitors !

Owner profile

About the owner
We've loved and lived in Cas Mila since 1975 and still enjoy it as much as our children and grandchildren do. The friendly village welcomed us then as it still welcomes visitors now. I'm a keen walker (and if you like walking too there's a fine collection of walking guides in the house) but I love lazing in the house, reading in our cool patio or soaking up the sun on our big roof terrace. We love to entertain our friends, and like to spend time here all year round - so Cas Mila is equipped as a home from home, not just an impersonal holiday stopover. My partner and I are both semi-retired now but I can work on my freelance projects and keep in touch with my family via the internet from the little study. We'd like to welcome you to Cas Mila - we're sure you'll enjoy it too!

Year purchased: 1970's

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Fornalutx is a charming and picturesque village in a stunningly beautiful setting. We fell in love with the village on sight, rented a house that same year and then bought Cas Mila. The mountains and village life are a big draw for me, the square is charming and lively, children can play safely in the street and our house is in a quiet backwater, only minutes from the bustle of shops and restaurants. But you can drive groceries almost to the door - important in a village with as many steps as streets! Our nearby town of Soller has fine shops and houses, a wonderful square to watch the world go by or meet friends, a picturesque railway link with Palma and a 1920s tram service to the beach and fun of the Port. And its a great centre for getting around the island, by bus, train.

Unique benefits of the property
Our house is in a quiet area, only 3 minutes from the square. The centre of the village can be noisy. Fun - but not so great if you want to sleep We're at the top of a set of steps, off a quiet lane but still accessible by car and with free parking close by. Cas Mila is great for summer living with a big terrace with wonderful views and a cool private patio for when the sun is too hot. There's a light, bright conservatory room (many traditional houses here are rather dark) and a spacious, comfortable living room. Paintings by local artists are set off against the white walls an olive-wood beams. It's a cosy house, even in winter. When the sun's not shing there's plenty to do - books, games, TV, DVDs and internet. The kitchen is equipped for keen cooks.
