Travel
35 mins drive to Palma and the airport (tunnel toll 4.40 euros). Taxis to and from Palma airport cost approximately 70 euros. Car hire is recommended, and some free parking is available. Fornalutx is a 5 min taxi drive from the town of Soller (7 euros), which has excellent links to Palma by bus and train. A bus runs from Fornalutx to Soller several times a day, and Soller can be reached on foot in about 30 mins.
Further details
Fornalutx is a feast for the senses which has to be seen to be believed. The Tramuntana mountain range provides a dramatic backdrop to this ancient village, its traditional stone houses protected by strict local planning laws and surrounded by fragrant citrus and olive groves. Despite its tranquillity, Fornalutx is within easy striking distance of the vibrant city of Palma, bustling town of Soller and pretty resort of Puerto Soller. It is also well served by several bars and restaurants and 2 well-stocked grocery shops. We thoroughly recommend the village for romantic couples, families, keen hikers, cyclists, or anyone who’d like to experience the ‘other side’ of Mallorca!

Guest comments
"We loved the house - it was like living on a film set! The village was great, and we spent several sunny afternoons enjoying the view from the terrace" - J & B McAuliffe
"Just a note to say we had a great holiday. The house was both beautiful and homely, and the village very welcoming and so pretty. The beauty of the setting defies description and I especially enjoyed being able to walk from the door of the house onto mountain paths.
It was ideal to live in the mountains and yet have close access to the sea and such beautiful towns and coastline and in the evening to be able to relax in the square and watch the children play." E Riley
Owner profile
About the owner
We are both teachers who live in London but love to visit Mallorca on our holidays. When in Fornalutx we like swimming at Port de Soller in summer time, and walking and drinking hot chocolate in front of the fire in winter time.
Year purchased: 2007
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We fell in love with Fornalutx on our first visit in 2007. It is a beautiful and peaceful village - a really fantastic place to get away from it all. The location offers the best of all worlds, being in the mountains, yet only 15 minutes from the nearest beach and just 30 minutes from the busy and exciting city of Palma. There is so much to do in Mallorca, no matter what time of year you visit, and Fornalutx is a great base for hiking, cycling and sightseeeing.
Unique benefits of the property
Our house is near the centre of the village and very conveniently placed for the cafes, restaurants and village shops. It is an old house with lots of character, and we put a lot of effort into maintaining its traditional flavour. We think it offers a traditional, uniquely Mallorcan experience that our guests will find refreshing and relaxing.
