1 bedroom holiday apartment in Santanyi, Mallorca

Private Oasis in a Mallorquin Country house
Sleeps 2 + child (Studio)

The spacious apartment lies in a wing of a restored 300 year-old Finca, in a hamlet approx 1km from Santanyi. The house stands in an acre of landscaped gardens, with a natural pond and sun deck; a shaded, columned walk; and a stone table for 10, with grill area. Even at the height of the summer, it is amazingly quiet, except for noise usually heard in the countryside (sheep bells, cockerell's, frogs). The apartment has its own entrance and terraces with access to a secluded patio. Also, a private roof terrace with uninterrupted views of Santanyi and across towards the Eastern mountain range and the Tramuntana mountains. An outside hot and cold shower in lush vegetation yet totally private, adds to the special Mediterranean feeling (my guests love it!!). The apartment is ideally suited for a relaxing holiday away from the main tourist spots, yet within easy reach of the south/eastern coastal resorts and Palma. A new motorway reduces the time to the airport to 40 minutes.

Notes on accommodation
Heating in the off-season is provided by a gas-powered radiator, an electric radiator in the bathroom and a wood stove in the living room. As the living room has cross ventilation (west/east) from its windows, fans are seldom necessary, though they are provided. There is also mosquito netting for the beds and windows. Metal curtains screen the doors from flies and mosquitoes.
I find that young children, especially if they are interested in natural history, adore it here. ( I had a boy catch 55 lizards on one holiday, needless to say, he set them all free again). I am sorry to not be accepting pets. My dog, who was loved by all my visitors, died 2 years ago and now I am stranded with 3 very gentle cats who believe they own the place. Apart, that is, from numerous red-eared turtles, gold fish and frogs.
Accessibility
The approach to the house is laid to gravel with steps, so it's not good for wheelchairs. There is a large, covered car-port with concrete front, suitable to park a guest car. To get to the roof terrace, one has to walk up a fairly steep staircase with no railing except for an ivy hedge.
Outside
There are several terraces around the apartment, including a western-facing one outside the front door. This is especially wonderful for a late afternoon/evening sun downer. It provides a table, 4 cane chairs with cushions and umbrella.
The roof terrace which spans the whole of the apartment, has 2 lounge sunbeds, as has the wooden sun deck by the pond.
Coast/Beach
There are numerous beaches within a 10/15 minute radius by car, for example: Cala Llombards, Cala Santanyi, Mondrago, S'Arramador, Colonia St. Jordi, Es Trenc. They are all famous for their fine sand and, in the case of some, for their unspoilt beauty. Es Trenc, with it's miles of virgin dunes and salt flats, is a supreme example. The island of Cabrera, off Colonia St. Jordi, which is a nature reserve, can be visited on a day trip by boat.
Golf
Golf Cala D'or, about a quarter hour's drive away. Very good restaurant and good facilities.
Special interest holidays
In the off-season I can arrange coastal walks or mountain walks in the Tramuntana Range.
Travel
It's essential to rent a car when you are visiting me. Palma airport is a 40 min drive away, but hiring a taxi would be more expensive than several days renting fee.
Distances
The nearest villages are Santanyi and Llombarts, both approx 1,5km away. There are bakers in both villages, so for fresh baguette you can go to both. (Sundays open, Mondays closed). Santanyi is emerging as a very lively 'arty' town with markets on Wednesday and Saturday, specializing in handicraft and local produce. There are numerous restaurants and art galleries and in the summer there is live music in the bar at the square.
Further details
This is an ideal base for all water sports such as sailing, wind or kite surfing, diving, snorkeling or canoeing. So is cycling, with many new cycle paths just opened around Santanyi. There is also one of the most frequented rock climbing walls in Cala Santanyi with another one just further up the coast.
Booking notes
When you arrange to book, I will send you a booking confirmation which becomes valid after you have paid the deposit, either by cheque or into my bank account. The down payment is 50% of the rent plus end/cleaning and the rest 14 days before arrival.
