No.5 Pescadores is a charming, small cottage, to which our tenants return year after year. It has 2 large bedrooms, full bathroom and modern kitchen/living area, situated on the quayside, 20 metres from the water, and 2 minutes walk from the main beach and 1 minute from the supermarket. The unspoilt village of Es Grau is about 10 mins from Mahon, the capital, (and 15 mins drive from the airport) in the Albufera National Park. Es Grau has one of the finest gently shelving beaches in the area, ideal for small children. A 5 minute walk takes you to 2 other small sandy beaches, and within 15 minutes there is a choice of another 5 or 6 beaches. The Isla d'en Colon, the offshore island which has 2 beautiful beaches, can be reached in about 15 minutes by pedalo or kayak from the main beach. The Albufeira lake and bird sanctuary lies hidden behind the dunes and pine trees of the main beach, and is a paradise for birdwatchers, or just a sunset stroll. Guided walks can be organised locally.

Prices are for the property per week in £ Sterling. For stays of more than 2 weeks, discounts on the above prices can be discussed. Please contact us for more information on this and winter lets. Monday change-overs but very flexible at beginning and end of season.
Changeover day
Monday. (Flexible at beginning and end of season).
The house will normally be ready by 12 noon, but if you arrive earlier you can always leave your luggage in the garage until house is ready. Departure by 10.00am.

Notes on accommodation
The house is ideal for a couple, a family of 4, or indeed 2 couples. We will visit you shortly after your arrival, and as we live and work on the island, we are always on the end of a phone to answer your questions, or to sort out any problems which might arise.
In the possible event of either falling sick or having an accident whilst you are here, remember to bring your EHIC's - European Health Cards, which entitle you to National Health treatment here. These are available from UK Post offices. Private holiday insurance is also advisable. Medical treatment at the new NHS Hospital in Mahon is excellent.
*Tenants wishing to use the air conditioning/heating will be requested to pay a small supplement to cover the extra electricity consumption - this can be arranged on arrival, depending upon the weather!
Outside
The large covered patio overlooking the bay has a round table and 6 chairs, 4 sun loungers, and 2 roll-up blinds for shade. It is ideal for young children as it is completely enclosed by a wall about 80cm high. There is a small bar next door, not a noisy one as it is not a late-night bar, but very useful for a drink and a snack. There is a small barbecue.
Coast/Beach
Es Grau has one of the finest sandy beaches in the area, ideal for small children as it shelves very gently. A 5 minute walk takes you to 2 other small sandy beaches, and within 15 minutes there is a choice of another 5 or 6 beaches. The off-shore island, Isla d'en Colon with its 2 beautiful beaches can be reached by canoe or pedalo from the main, as can several of the other beaches up the coast. There are no beach bars, so take your own drinks.
Golf
The one 18-hole golf course on the island, at Son Parc, is approximately 20 minutes drive away.
Travel
Car hire is recommended, at least for part of your holiday, but is not essential as the beaches, supermarket, restaurant and bars are all within walking distance. There is a bus service to Mahón in the season, otherwise a taxi can be called. Should you wish to hire a car, we run a car hire business and are happy to give discounted rates to our tenants. 10 minutes drive to the capital, Mahón, and 15 minutes drive to the airport.
Further details
The island of Menorca is well worth exploring if you have not visited it before. It is rich in history and archaeological sites, or if you prefer sun and sand, no other island in Spain has more beaches and coves than Menorca. The Port of Mahon is one of the finest deep-water anchorages in Europe, and there are shops, restaurants and bars all around the harbour. The old buildings of Mahon have been beautifully restored, likewise the fine Opera House which has a varied programme of concerts and events throughoput the year. There is a twice weekly artisans' market, a Music Festival throughout the summer and daily organ concerts in the Santa Maria church. There is plenty of information in the house about local sites, events and places to go/eat etc. The very well stocked supermarket in the village is only 1 minute's walk from the house as is the unsophisticated but excellent Bar/restaurant Can Bernat. There is another restaurant right on the water's edge and the bars in the village all serve 'tapas' (snacks) as well as drinks. There is no Bank nor ATM in the village - the closest facilities are in Mahon. Stamps are sold at the shop and there is a post box by the main car park. A bus service between Mahón and Es Grau operates during the main summer months.
Booking notes
A non-returnable deposit of £300 is required at the time of making a booking, details for payment of which will be given at the time of making a firm booking. The remainder should be paid 6 weeks prior to arrival. A reminder of the balance due will be sent by email.

About the owner
We have lived and worked in Menorca (running a car hire business) since 1969, which surely says it all. We bought our cottage in Es Grau in 1983 when our children were young and able to enjoy the freedom of a quiet village with perfect swimming on the doorstep.
Our home now is in San Luis, about 20 minutes away, so we are always on hand to answer questions and sort out any problems. Since we completely renovated the house in 2003, it has been booked solidly for 6 months every summer. More then half our tenants each year have been before and one family spent their 15th holiday there this year!

Why the owner chose a home in this location
As Es Grau is located in a National Park, it will never become developed, but will always offer beautiful swimming from a dozen beaches within a 20 minute walk, in addition to the 2 heavenly beaches on the our off-shore island, the Isla d'en Colon, which can be reached by boat from the jetty 20 metres from our house. Thanks to the well-stocked general store, and the 4 or 5 bars and restaurants, you could spend a week there without moving out of the village! It is also a haven for yachties who find a mooring in the bay in the evenings and come ashore for their sun downers, so there is always something to watch. Off season provides wonderful walking and birdwatching and the chance to explore the rest of Menorca with its fascinating history.
Unique benefits of the property
From our cottage, you have the shop, several bars, the main beach, and the bird sanctuary all within a 5 minute walk. Juan now operates an 11-seater sun-shaded inflatable from just outside our house to take you to the island, or one of the many other unspoilt beaches in the area. We have our own parking space right outside, and a huge flat roof which extends over the whole house, offering wonderful views around the bay and over to the Island.
