Restored Farmhouse with Private Pool, Garden & Fields
Peaceful, Rural Location, 10 minutes Drive to Beach
Sleeps 8 (4 Bedrooms)
|
This beautiful old 4 bedroom farmhouse is situated on a peaceful country lane between the villages of S’Uestra and Torret, approximately 5 minutes drive from the town of Sant Lluis and 10 minutes from Mahon. It is within 5 minutes walk of a terrific local supermarket, excellent restaurants are also just a short walk from the house. A number of sandy beaches and small coves are within a five to ten minute drive.
Surrounded by open countryside, the property enjoys sweeping 180 degrees views of the sea in the distance from Binibeca to the harbour at Es Castell broken only by the village of Torret.
The house, set in a large well established garden, has been meticulously and lovingly restored by the owners. It is tastefully furnished and decorated, as a home rather than merely for holiday use, retaining much of its old Spanish charm.

Notes on accommodation
A DVD player and CD player is provided. The TV has a Spanish equivalent of a Freeview box. We have left plenty of books for guests to read and DVDs for guests to watch. The wood burning stove is great for cool evenings, and wood is provided. There are electric fires available for use on cooler spring or autumn evenings. For the warmer months there is a freestanding fan available for use in each bedroom. Most rooms have exposed wooden beams and old tiled floors.
The cot and high chair can be hired for a modest weekly charge
Outside
We have a well stocked, fully maintained garden with many different shrubs and fruit trees. There is a freestanding barbecue. The private pool is half way down the garden, with plenty of room for sun bathing or lying in the shade on reclining chairs. It is roughly 9x4m with Roman steps providing easy access at the shallow end and is kept immaculately clean. The pool is not fenced off, so care should be taken with young children. The fields adjacent to the house also belong to us. The front garden is largely gravelled with space to park up to three cars.
Coast/Beach
Menorca has over 100 coves and sandy beaches, many of which are particularly good for children. The nearest beaches are between 10 and 15 minutes away by car. If you want to take a picnic or go further afield there are wonderful unspoilt beaches 50 mins away on the North side of the island.
Golf
The only golf course on the island is about 40 mins away by car at Son Parc on the North coast.
Travel
Mahon airport is 15 mins away from the farmhouse and you can either pick up a taxi on arrival or pick up your hire car. Car hire is essential unless you plan to spend your entire holiday around the house's pool and garden, walking locally, shopping in the excellent supermarket (5 mins walk)or eating at the several local restaurants within easy walking distance.
Distances
San Lluis is the nearest town with plenty of restaurants, shops, bank, cash points etc. (5 mins by car.)
Mahon (l0 mins by car) is a fascinating medieval port built round the finest natural harbour in the Mediterranean. It is an attractive small town with markets for meat, vegetables, fruit and fish, and good smaller local shops. There are excellent and varied restaurants along the waterfront, with cafes and bars with music.
Monte Toro is the highest hill on the island about 40 mins drive.
Further details
Supermarket: The local family run supermarket is only 5 mins walk and is excellent - freshly baked bread, locally made sausages, wonderful meat and deli-counter - all you could possibly want. For fresh fish go early to the fish market in Mahon, or the fish shop in San Lluis - 5 mins in the car.
Restaurants: We are lucky to have some of the best restaurants on the island within walking distance or a short drive – La Caraba, Sa Pedrera, Villa Madrid, Pan y Vino and others too such as the Biniarocca (10 mins by car). The harbourside restaurants of Es Castell are also worth trying as are those in Mahon.
Mahon: Menorca was a British possession and naval base for many years and there are beautiful Georgian houses, including one supposedly lived in by Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton, overlooking the harbour. It’s a fascinating town, worth strolling around the pretty streets or having a coffee in one of the squares.
Boating: Menorca is a great island for sailing enthusiasts. At the port of Mahon yachts and power boats of all sizes can be hired or day trips can be taken.
Fornells on the North Coast is a centre for Wind Surfing, hiring of small motorboats etc. on the large sheltered inlet from the sea.
Many guests arrange sailing courses.
Archaeology: Menorca is famous for its Taula's, its pre historic stone age monuments. These can be seen all over the island great standing stones and stone burial places.
Scuba/Diving/Snorkeling: The clear warm Mediterranean water, the volcanic formation of Menorca's rocky coastline and numerous types of fish make the island ideal for underwater exploration. There is a diving centre at S'Algar (15 mins by car).
Walking: There are many little inlets with sandy beaches accessible only by walking or by sea. There are also some Nature Reserves such as that at Es Grau. We have some books of walks in the house for guests to refer to.
Banks: San Lluis (5 mins by car) has many banks and cashpoints.

'We had such a wonderful time. The garden is spectacular, the house very calm, cool and welcoming. We feel well relaxed and determined to return. Thank you so much, you've made and created a wonderful place'.
'We all had a marvelous time in your lovely house. We swam and sang and cooked and let the sun and the calm air do away with our anxieties. What a lovely part of the world. And how beautifully you've restored your house. Your garden is in full bloom by the way and the lemons look big and promising'
'Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed our holiday at your farmhouse. The house is beautiful and the garden is just wonderful and such a treat to sit in and enjoy. It reminded us a lot of our old farmhouse in Pou Nou but that had no crystal clear pool, no distant sea views and a garden that could not compare with your oasis. Torret is a great location too for beaches, restaurants and local shops. We hope we can arrange to go again sometime. You have made a beautiful home'.
Owner profile
About the owner
Mary and I first holidayed in Menorca in 1996, in Cala Longa. The following year we visited again, but this time stayed in an old house which, having more character, we much preferred. Living in Central London, we have terraces but no garden. For Mary, a former landscape gardener the chance to have a proper garden was too good to miss. We have two daughters, both teenagers and two grown up sons who all holiday with us in the Summer.
Year purchased: 1997
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We so liked the island that on our second holiday we decided to look for an old house to buy. Right at the end of the holiday we were shown three possible houses, and fell immediately in love with one of them, our current home. It was virtually a wreck, with minimal lighting and no hot water! But it did have nice views and we felt that we could put our own stamp on it while retaining much of the original character. Over the next 9 months we completely renovated the house into the wonderful home we have now. A couple of years later we bought the neighbouring fields in order to guarantee privacy and the outlook. Because of its location - near Mahon, beaches, restaurants and shops, yet quiet, it has become a real family holiday home where we all come together in the summer.
Unique benefits of the property
To us, the house and garden are an oasis of calm. We often only leave the premises to walk to the local supermarket or to go to one of the many nearby restaurants. Virtually every plant in the garden has been planted by us over the last twelve years, many bought from the RHS in the UK - there are citrus trees, bourganvillea, plumbago, palms, beautifully fragranted brugmansia and cestrum nocturnum and many, many more. In the fields there are more plants we have planted as well as abundant fig trees - great when in season! Pretty uniquely located between two villages, we benefit from having a range of restaurants within walking distance, while also having the quiet and solitude of a rural location. We are also just ten minutes drive from the nearest beach.
