A south-facing, apartment with beautiful direct views onto the bay of Cala Tirant. Playas de Fornells is a resort on the quiet north coast. It's a picturesque development and is famous for its beautiful gardens - an evening stroll reveals cleverly-lit arches and walkways. The apartment is on the ground floor in a small block of 4 apartments. It is a simple, comfortable holiday home - we do not have a DVD or TV as, out of season, the peace and quiet is utterly magical. Even in August the resort is fairly low key. If you are interested in walking, bird-watching and relaxing on beaches, May, June, September and October are ideal. July and August are hotter and perfect for water sports and beach days.

Changeover day
Flexible out of season. During July and August, Friday preferred. Can accommodate late arrival times, but on changeover days the apartment may not be available until after 2pm and may need to be vacated by 10am.

Bedrooms: Twin beds, built-in wardrobe, floor to ceiling bay window with views over bay.
Bathrooms: Modern bathroom (2009) with walk-in shower, wash basin, WC and washing machine.
Kitchen: Oven, hob, fridge/freezer, toaster and all usual utensils and crockery.
Living Rooms: Open plan and very spacious with sofa, coffee table and terrace tables and chairs for dining. Doors lead onto terrace, gardens and sea views. Plenty of books and local information.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
All bed linen, bath/hand towels and T-towels are provided. Our local management company changes them and cleans the apartment once a week. Please bring your own beach towels. You can also hire cots.

Notes on accommodation
The apartment is ideal for those looking for a relaxing holiday. The north coast is perfect for swimming, walking and bird watching, as is the rest of the island. There are several bars, restaurants and shops on the resort and in nearby Fornells. Access to the apartment is down a few steps. No pets allowed.

Coast/Beach
5-10 minutes walk to beach. The gently sloping waters are ideal for swimming. There are 2 beaches: the first is near shops and restaurants: the second is more secluded and larger and is a short walk across low rocks. There is no development behind the beach and it is designated as a nature and wildlife area. This is also a very popular spot for windsurfing.

Travel
A 30 minute drive from the airport. You can take a taxi but we suggest hiring a car. There are so many places to discover on the island. We can give you an idea of car-hire prices and recommend a very reliable local company.

Distances
Nowhere is very far. The island has 2 main towns: Mahon (Mao) and Ciutadella, both worth visiting. Both of these and the smaller towns have market days. Details of days and places are in the apartment. The beaches are natural and unspoilt. If you enjoy walking, it's possible to find small coves to yourself. Archaeologically, there are several sites of interest all over the island.

Further details
The resort is a short drive or a 40 minute walk away from Fornells, a delightful harbour village. Here, there are more waterside restaurants, small shops, boat trips and boat hire. There are pedestrianised walkways along the water's edge, perfect for evening strolls. Water sports, including diving, are popular on the island, as is horse riding and golf. Bird watching is excellent and we can provide information on sites.

It really is the most perfect place to stay if you are looking for a relaxing holiday. We were very fortunate as we had two weeks of wall to wall sunshine with temperatures in the upper twenties just right not too hot.The new bathroom with the walk in shower is a big positive.

About the owner
We love Menorca for its beauty, peace and quiet; and most of our guests agree. It really is a bolthole from our busy working lives in the UK.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We fell for the view in front of our apartment as soon as we saw it. The terrace overlooks the bay and out of season, the only sounds you can hear are seabirds flapping on the water and scops owls calling in the evening. The resort, too, is so pretty and quiet. Fornells is on the north coast but nowhere is far on Menorca. Each time we go we discover something new. We love walking and there are coastal walks, gorge walks and inland historical walks. The Cami de Cavalls is a walk around the whole island and it is becoming more well-marked and accessible. In July and August it's often too hot for walking but there are many beautiful beaches and hidden coves. The bird watching is also fantastic in spring and autumn and we can give you information on sites and what to look for.
