The best place to get up close to buildings from this time is the city of Nimes, which is home to two of the best-preserved structures in the whole former Roman Empire. The amphitheatre is impressive, and is used for public gatherings and sporting events to this day, while the Maison Carree, a temple, has hardy changed since it was erected 2,00 years ago. Another unmissable historical attraction a little way from Anduze cottages is Pont du Gard, a well-preserved aqueduct, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Anduze self-catering villas are also an hour away from the Mediterranean coast, where you’ll find some beautiful beaches, especially at Sete and Cap d’Adge.
